This project was designed to provide two tools to enhance that process for those involved in staff ministry within the Church of the Nazarene.  The report outlines a traditional understanding of ministry within a denominational context.  It researches areas of verbalized concern from interviews, discusses potential barriers to staff ministry due to denominational polity, and develops communication tools to enhance effectiveness in ministry. Active listening, articulating personal needs, triangulation, and four ego defenses, drawn primarily from Virginia Satir and Murray Bowen's ideas, were explored through verbal presentations, skits, and discussions.  As a result, the participants were better able to identify potential problem patterns of communication.  They were also able to successfully apply this learning to their marriages one month later. This project attempts to bring to the forefront the realities of incest by reviewing some statistical information and published literature on incest within a feminist framework.  It also presents the voices of seventeen young women who were incest victims.  A profile of the incestuous family based on the seventeen testimonies is offered in the form of a case study which is written in the voice of the victim/survivor and has a Christian slant. The training program consisted of six sessions which made the counselors aware of the feelings of grief, and how they might effectively relate to persons in grief.  After training, seven of the ten persons trained were willing to be assigned to bereaved persons whom they contacted on a regular basis.  These contacts proved to be helpful to the bereaved persons over the six months to a year that they related to them. These concerns led to open discussions and good exchange of personal struggles. A seminar presented spiritual growth insights from developmental psychology and encouraged small-group interaction about these concepts to help Christians re-examine their own spiritual progress, develop new understanding of biblical and Christian ideas about spiritual growth, and plan intentionally for their own continuing spiritual growth. The result of this project was a workshop that taught the Lord's Prayer as the scriptural basis, the prayer of the heart as the meditative process model, and journaling as an evaluative method.  The project was carried out in a prayer workshop in the First Baptist Church of Okeene, Oklahoma in February, 1984.  The workshop setting allowed a free interchange of ideas and dealt with the needs of the individual participants.
