The material for this project comes from a combination of personal experience, formal and informal involvement with other infertile couples, and extensive library research. The Anoka program, presented to jail administration and local clergy by the author in 1983, included the following essentials: 1. a firm, two-year clergy commitment; 2. two initial sessions of orientation and training for clergy and laymen; and 3. semi-annual meetings to evaluate and expand jail ministry skills.  The program was accepted and began in April, 1984, with thirteen clergy taking turns in providing a weekly ministry. A steering committee was chosen to direct the program. Because it is such a pronounced minority, the Melkite Church must simultaneously protect and share what is distinctively its own with these newcomers.  To this end, the didaskomenate--a period of instruction and religious socialization, like the catechumenate, but for those already baptized--was developed and implemented in this project. Improvements were measured through beginning and ending completion of the Jay Hall Conflict Management Survey; a comparison of participants' beginning and ending survey scores with a control group of eleven pastors who completed the survey at similar intervals; and participants' final reports on the accomplishment of goals stated at the beginning.  Seminar work included a consideration of 1. identity issues for the pastor; 2. theology and ministry; 3. theology of the church; 4. theology of conflict; and 5. the pastor's role as manager.  Conflict case studies of participants were also shared and evaluated.
