The event itself may exist only a few moments, but its impact and consequences can extend for weeks, or months, and sometimes years.  In short, when a disaster occurs, a crisis is produced which has immediate and long-term effects upon the total community.  The intent of this project is to provide a resource guide for volunteers who are selected by their church bodies or congregations and who are willing to become consultants or counselors at disaster sites. Most churches, however, need assistance in increasing the effectiveness of the congregation's ability to give care.  The writer developed a three-month training program for twelve persons to study the theology of caregiving, stages of human development, and caring skills.  Following training the trainees entered hurting situations under the writer's supervision. The paper discribes how this need is being met in two smaller membership churches through the use and evaluation of 'Body Builders: Exercises in Leadership Development for Elders of Smaller Membership Churches,' a training manual written for the project.  The vital characteristics of smaller membership churches and the nature and origin of the office of elder are presented that these elders and churches may more effectively function in the upbuilding of the body of Christ. In order to determine the needs of singles, data was collected from two sources.  The first source was a survey of literature on the subject and the second source was from singles, themselves, through open-ended interviews.  An analysis of a theological perspective of singleness was also developed.  The design for ministry was then developed from these sources of data. Relying on the tenants of process theology the author developed a process for dissolving the stuckness of this place in relationship to ministry.  This process involved training members of the congregation to interview persons about their perceptions of the history of Twelve Apostles Church. A study experience is conducted in two churches served by the author.  The study included both an introduction to feminist theology and ministry as well as an evaluation of the author's ministry in relation to these perspectives.  Also, thirty churches were surveyed, fifteen served by clergywomen, fifteen served by clergymen. An attempt is made to determine whether lay people's perception of ministry changes after experiencing a woman as pastor. The format is a non-residential facility receiving probationary or paroled offenders referred by the court or self upon release.  The client reported twice weekly for twelve months and received spiritual and psychological support and a full range of social services for self and family.  Insights from process theology provide the theological perspective.
