Research revealed a high level of religious thought among unchurched participants.  Content was almost equally representative of Eastern and Western religious systems.  Participants were primarily interested in religious ideas that answered questions about how God operates in relationship with the world and life after death. The speaking abilities of these individuals were tested by means of the Bryan-Wilke Scale for Rating Public Speeches before and after their exposure to the weekly training sessions. Data were gathered through a written questionnaire.  A graphic comparison method and other complementary instruments were adopted in terms of a discrepancy model.  Among ten subject-matter areas, the results show the area of biblical knowledge as most in need of continuing education.  This is followed by evangelism-church growth and biblical-historical-systematic theology. Seventh-day Adventist heritage and pastoral care place adequately in the middle range.  Church administration placed higher than church history-comparative religion and biblical languages. Pastors with graduate education gave evidence of greater doctrinal-biblical knowledge and a small advantage in ministerial skills.  Motivations and deterrents in regard to continuing education are listed. A group of sixteen mid-life men were administered the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale.  The group was then divided into test and control groups of eight men.  The test group met in a weekly counseling session with the author where basic relationship building skills were implemented for twelve weeks.  At the end of twelve weeks, the entire sample was again administered the Scale. The project sought through pastoral care, demonstrated in an intentional small group process, to promote theological reflection about meaningful living.  The desired effect was to know the fact of one's death to be an impetus for life. This report outlines theological and psychological bases for the concept of anticipatory grief.  Methodology entailed determination of issues the participants wanted addressed as well as delineation of the mechanics of the phenomenon of anticipatory grief.  The project showed a positive correlation between a constructive sense of anticipatory grief and a sense of meaning for life. An extensive training program for the development of the elders was established covering the areas of being called, history, teaching, flocking, prayer, creative listening, leadership, and gifts and talents.  The foundation undergirding this study was learning responsibility and accountability.
