Therefore, the project sought listener response to deductive and inductive preaching in the Pioneer Memorial Church in order to ascertain listener preference for one or the other of these two sermonic methods. Eight sermons were preached that intentionally alternated between the deductive and inductive methods. A group of randomly selected listeners reacted to each sermon through a standard evaluative questionnaire. Based upon their responses, listener preference for deductive and inductive preaching was ascertained. It was discovered that in numerous instances the listeners demonstrated a wide range of responses and preferences that prevents any categorical advocacy of one method over the other. A complex statistical study involving the chi square was used to determine the accuracy of the thesis. A testing procedure employing the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Spiritual Orientation Profile was administered to 100 lay people and 100 clergy persons and the personalities and prayer lives were examined. The results clearly indicated that the author's thesis was true; therefore, null hypothesis was accepted: that there is no difference between personality and-or vocation and the capacity to attain a high level of prayer."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127556262461440,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:45:47.815Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:53:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:32:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fd14a845-37ea-47d6-b45a-4a51a91d2435","accessControl_ssim":["8e836f98-fd84-405b-b071-c2331c96b6ff"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Using theological education by extension to teach biblical theology in Haiti"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:53:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:22:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["06a2fd59-57f4-4b7a-9a3b-62c1a60ec30f"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc274e81-b86c-434e-a884-7268ae540dd1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"location_tesim":["Caribbean Area"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Howard R Culbertson"],"publisher_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Case method","Clergy--Training of","Religious education","Church of the Nazarene"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Using an adaptation of the case-study method, this study focuses on the relationships between the lives and ministries of 20 Nazarene pastors in Haiti and the program of theological education in which they are engaged. Research into the biblical, historical, and theological roots of the sacrament led to the development of a theological framework which featured the primary aspects of remembrance, proclamation, participation, and thanksgiving. This research also contributed to the planning of a study series, sermon series, and worship series which involved the congregation of First United Methodist Church, Moweaqua, Illinois, in a consideration of the sacrament's place in their faith experience. Involvement in the project by this congregation led to a broader understanding of the sacrament, an enhanced experience of it, and a willingness to commune more frequently. The research, sacramental model, project components, and conclusions explored in this paper provide a sound foundation upon which other local congregations can, and should, develop similar efforts to enhance their experience of the Lord's Supper."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134448638492672,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:35:20.897Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:53:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:04:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c15d8dc1-ec34-4755-a870-bcdf4dc73390","accessControl_ssim":["219755f1-c3ac-4760-ba2f-ee503fe0a325"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Homosexuality: steps toward understanding"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:53:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:41:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["edd22535-1a17-434b-aa72-fb8224befeb6"],"hasLease_ssim":["a147c37d-c0b9-4740-8baa-efd74a76f2c9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Leigh M Roberts"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Judith E Michaels"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Homosexuality","Social action"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is a primer for the heterosexual, church-related person who is not irrevocably opposed to homosexuality and the issues it raises.
