While working with divorced people the author discovered one theme that is common to nearly all divorce situations, the theme of loneliness.  To address the theme of loneliness he modeled his procedure after William B Ogleby Jr's book Biblical themes for pastoral care. Oglesby underscores the importance of using the biblical story to intersect life themes. The purpose of this project is to bring together biblical references and values, a study of current literature and insights gained from a survey of the attitudes of youth, to produce a program which influences young people in their attitudes and expectations regarding marriage. It provides a leader's guide and student book which develop positive attitudes about adults, the role of youth in the life of the church and conflict. It gives information about the polity and structure of the United Methodist Church and helps in developing skills in communication and group process. Pursuing the American dream and following Jesus Christ, though difficult, are not necessarily antithetical. This project explores the apologetics of Lewis from a pastoral perspective.  Lewis understood that Western society is profoundly secular in tone.  He wrote so as to appeal to secular people.  Lewis defended 'mere' Christianity, an understanding of the faith which was co-extensive with the ancient creeds; he resisted sectarianism and theological faddishness. Lewis's intellectual approach was augmented by a lifestyle which this thesis calls 'pastoral apologetics'.
