It asks whether marginal members are removed from the active member roll because of per capita apportionment expense and, if so, what impact this has on the total number of persons on active member rolls of Presbyterian Churches. Research methods include 1) an investigation of General Assembly minutes to highlight historical sections; 2) interviews with executive presbyters to compare the funding philosophies and approaches of twenty-one presbyteries; 3) a survey of elders. Main findings are that 1) per capita apportionments most influence the rate of removal of marginal members in churches with less than 150 members; 2) financial stress increases the likelihood that marginal members will be removed from the active roll; 3) once a person is placed on the inactive roll that person seldom becomes an active member again. Teachers who provide opportunities for the sharing of faith and for hearing the faith statements of others will be central in the witnessing church. This project explored these presuppositions by organizing a group of persons in the church who were trained to design and implement a workshop to teach others to enhance their leadership capabilities and by forming a new intergenerational church school class to test the styles and strategies of the workshop. The project was conducted at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church, Butler County, Ohio."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129232401760256,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:12:26.306Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:24:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:46:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"97f8d973-fce0-4b39-8419-3e598da69987","accessControl_ssim":["c2112f99-618a-4520-ba73-b70a319912d9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Learning and changing: a research project in global justice education"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:24:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:34:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a9aaa7ad-05af-4086-a6b9-2f8a92d75495"],"hasLease_ssim":["655cf6fd-5c20-42d7-83d8-7e66659e3d9d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["D Bruce Roberts"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["C Eugene Bryant"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Social justice","Christian education--Teaching methods","Attitude (Psychology)","Religious education--Teaching methods"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this project is that pastors can communicate more effectively with lay persons concerning controversial issues in global justice by using a dialogical (indirect) style of teaching, rather than an authoritarian (direct) style. The author uses a control group and two study groups. Only the latter two groups receive instruction. The Flanders-Amidon style descriptions are used with those two groups. The project tests two variables: awareness and attitude. For the first, the research supports the thesis. For the second, it does not. The research indicates that much more than teaching style is involved in effecting attitudinal change in lay persons."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["795851c5-e081-4353-9c00-2c554dd1d015"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135151239987200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:46:30.950Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:24:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:45:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"71bea260-c256-4e46-b8fb-d1c97ca03054","accessControl_ssim":["991acb38-e077-4fb6-bcf5-2048929afa7e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["History and appraisal of the Covenant Federated Church in Kentland, Indiana"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:24:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:27:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e45bad2f-39ca-486d-9e1e-825c5c5eeb86"],"hasLease_ssim":["6e7023da-ab7e-4794-b383-442affa48283"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Keith Watkins"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard Dale Moore"],"keyword_tesim":["Local church mergers"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)","Covenant Federated Church, Kentland, Indiana","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This writing explains in detail the process of forming the Covenant Federated Church in Kentland, Indiana.
