It is an art which is developed through relationships and experiences. This study challenges methods of decision-making which offer authoritarian attachment and deny one's personal responsibility. The suggested alternative is an approach to decision-making based on an interpretation of the will of God which focuses on being over doing. Not only can it keep us from making wise decisions, it can set up a pattern that leaves us unable to make any decisions at all. This paper seeks to explore some ways in which to understand this problem and suggests that one way to overcome this problem is through the employment of an active imagination. The result of the research has resulted in a workshop for those who seek new possibilities for life and ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129636166434816,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:18:51.366Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:09:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:20:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"17fcce74-92c7-4583-8cdf-c4561644f69f","accessControl_ssim":["167bde19-a404-4a16-95f4-df1fdb399eaf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Intentional interim ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:09:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:50:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6753b09d-ad33-4636-ad4a-fcaa002f9f72"],"hasLease_ssim":["79d66017-f96d-465b-83aa-b56e911a3668"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Minnesota Consortium of Theological Schools"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert H Albers"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul N Svingen"],"publisher_tesim":["Minnesota Consortium of Theological Schools"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Appointment, call, and election","Clergy","Laity","Evangelical Lutheran Church in America"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The health of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is related to how it cares for its congregations. The health of an ELCA congregation is related to how it cares for itself during the interim time between a change of pastors. During change congregations, interim pastors, and the larger church can heal, develop, and grow. The study examines leadership roles of ELCA interim pastors from 7 regions and addresses five developmental tasks of a congregation in search of a pastor. The study looks at theological, historical, ecclesiastical, and pastoral dimensions of a new approach to interim pastoral ministry in the ELCA.
