There were two other groups of lay persons that either studied on their own, or did not study at all.  The study extended over an eight week period in an effort to determine how well persons who participated in the groups, who also contributed to the sermon preparation, understood the message and text that was used as the basis for the sermon. Dealing with juvenile delinquency is a major problem.  The program was set to serve 50-75 students.  Students were given tutorial help, recreational opportunities, cultural exposure, and counseling opportunities during the summer and after school in the spring and fall of 1988 and 1989.  The students, volunteers, and church members were surveyed to ascertain whether of not the project was successful.
