The goal is not to isolate the therapeutic benefits of the spiritual disciplines, but to grow in godliness.  Doctoral classes and library research were combined to create an eight-session class which focused first on intimacy and spiritual intimacy.  The remaining six sessions dealt with the spiritual disciplines of the Word, meditative prayer, simplicity, forgiveness, service and worship. This paper studies the reasons for church-mission tensions and proposes general solutions leading to a specific strategy.  The author, in addition to library research, draws upon his own personal experience of 13 years in Zaire.  A new model for church-mission partnership, characterized by mutual responsibility and interdependence is suggested. Called 'project mode,' this new paradigm for participatory partnership was submitted to 23 mission organizations for their evaluation. In order to understand what was taking place he proposed the following research topic: Why do Mexican-American Lutherans in Corpus Christi seek the help of curanderos/curanderas?  The study includes three interviews with healers and five church member case studies. The author outlines a game-plan utilized by Satan in which he uses culture as a means of keeping people from Christ. A strategy being used in a Muslim country was put to a historical, theological, and missiological test.  During this evaluation process it was recognized that a biblical, theological base to shape the approach was not laid. Consequently the strategy was not resulting in glory being brought to God, and also missionaries were not working harmoniously.  Failure to agree theologically about mission results in failure to agree methodologically. In the language of the Pauline epistles, it is the call to the church to speak to the powers and principalities of the world.  The author has brought forth the story of the massacre at Indian Island, an island within the city of Eureka, California, that happened on February 26, 1860.  The author's intent was to bring forward public events of a spiritual nature that addressed remembrance, contrition and forgiveness. Many clergy wives experience God's love as real and believable in one's daily life.  A few women married to clergy do not experience authentic personhood.  The study identified programs, methodologies and strategies that were helpful.  One hundred-six clergy's wives responded to a survey instrument.
