Hospitality, defined as a gracious openness toward church guests, was revealed as a major biblical theme.  The program included questionnaires to members, visitors, pastors, and special visitors who documented their experience of welcome.  The project's core was a workshop followed by project actions seeking to maximize the visitor's sense of welcome.  Focused interviews of participants assessed their growth. Therefore, the role of ministry in rapidly changing pastoral contexts should be reexamined continuously to be effective cross-culturally.  This project emerges out of a cross-cultural pastoral experience which provides tools and opportunities to discern critical issues in the ministry and to articulate a methodology for the ministry.  The project envisions and suggests how ministry can be cross-culturally whole. Samples of each group were selected from five geographical areas and submitted to a form analysis using a model based on the theories of David Buttrick. Therefore, Korean churches have become strongly biased against traditional religions and various theatrical traditions.  Korean Christianity, although very Western in its liturgy and appearances, is obviously quite shamanistic in its belief and behavior.  In the Korean traditional theater, shinmyong is a special artistic experience characterizing the popular aesthetic consciousness of the Korean people.  Shinmyong gives rise to the birth of the people's enthusiastic and participating worship, whether on an individual or a group level.  The shinmyong is comparable to the Western Christian liturgical experience. Shinmyong is an embodiment and incarnation of the Spirit innate in each and every person. The church of Korea should acknowledge these theatrical phenomena as unique resources for the Christian liturgical theology. This project probes one aspect of the Minjung church movement both theologically and practically, in the perspective of Minjung theology and Third World theologies. This project seeks to discover approaches to mainline denominational preaching that effectively communicate to the baby boom generation. An examination of currents in nineteenth century American religious history and responses by African Americans reveals an intense effort at identity that is true to both the experience of being Christian and being African.  The project develops the social context that gave rise to the independent African-American church, and focuses on the dissimilarities of African Americans in the areas of biblical identity and the conversion experience. The hermeneutical challenge is to recognize the ambiguity of the African-American church as a separatist institution justified in its existence in light of the pain of African-American communities. Though the independent church movement institutionalized an ambiguous relationship to the evangelical tradition, the independent churches were clear about the need for freedom.
