The church is called to be an alternative community in which a common faith, love and mission unite diverse persons and groups. A case is made both for racial and social diversity and for a diversity of theological and ideological perspectives in the local church. The research conducted for the project concentrated on the theological, historical, and practical rationales. Training lessons taught by the author helped the participant understand his giftedness. A spiritual gifts inventory showed each participant his gift or gifts.  A ministry-action plan allowed the participant to exercise his gift in the ministry program of the New Sarepta Baptist Church. Historical, descriptive, and experimental research methodologies were used with the selected group. The author used a method of research that incorporated an experimental and a control group.  Eleven teaching sessions, a pretest, and a posttest were used to accomplish this goal.  The results of the pretest and posttest showed an increase in knowledge and a positive change in participation and attitude in the experimental group. A sample group of adults was trained in discipleship for the purpose of developing a discipleship program.  A pretest and posttest were used with the committee and a control group.  A survey revealed areas of interest in discipleship, and the committee developed a program based on the results.  The program was evaluated by church leadership and outside parties.
