The thesis investigates theology, biblical word studies, group pastoral care, dance, and applications from dance-movement therapy, music therapy, and left brain/right brain research. Compassion is found to be a process of connecting by centering, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.  Over a three-month period, ninety percent of the congregation favored such centering.  Sixty-four percent experienced greater ability to share compassion from the interventions. A bicultural, bilingual team is aiding a Midwest congregation in their spiritual formation.  Together with Lao and Americans, they studied and acted on the nature of the church using a Reformed tradition and a model of human culture to interpret the nature of the church. The ministry challenge addressed in this thesis project is a congregation composed of closed, enmeshed, manipulative family and friend relationships resistant to the admission of newcomers. The timelines, historical documents, and pictures offer an historical context for understanding these eight Black Episcopal churches. The methodology employed is an interplay between process theology and structured family systems theory. Intervention into the church family system relied upon the primary use of differing forms of paradox and not stating or identifying a diagnosis. This educational effort combined the shared praxis approach of Thomas H Groome with a congregational outreach to Mexico to broaden the congregation's understanding of mission.  The project participants were the Wednesday evening group and the men of the work team.  Through a series of Bible studies, selected pericopes that concentrate on God's grace impacting the world were presented.  The congregation was challenged to critically reflect and make decisions based on the Scriptures.
