The study briefly reviews the historical roots of unconscious material, gives a short overview of the use of unconscious material within the spirituality of Roman Catholicism, and shows through the use of image material recorded during directed retreats how biblical imagery can be a catalyst for raising unconscious material to consciousness. The results of this study illustrate the effectiveness of biblical imagery as an agent of integration. The conclusion shows the usefulness of biblical imagery in the individuation process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133097397321728,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:13:52.253Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:51:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:14:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"21c72f7a-f386-4456-8400-8c25fe5036e1","accessControl_ssim":["d20cfb46-82c7-497a-b3d7-f8691631e29f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Listen for the hunger: spiritual dimensions of eating problems in women"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:51:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:08:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b2d7af31-dd5a-4f31-b965-3ca4a41ee3f5"],"hasLease_ssim":["5f1d0918-b281-4fc8-bfde-7e55ec5e95c5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Brita L Gill-Austern"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jean C Thompson"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Eating disorders","Imagery (Psychology)","Women--Religious life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Using object relations, family systems, and feminist theory, the author explored the experiences and insights of women with eating problems in light of their spirituality and their involvement in religious institutions. The underpinnings of this thesis are demonstrated through an examination of the Roman Catholic understanding of the Bible, tradition, current magisterial statements and broader theological reflection and experience in relation to homosexuality. The role of conscience and dissent in the history of the Catholic Church are discussed as central dynamics in coming to a stance of self-affirmation. It is argued from the perspective of conscience/dissent that self-affirmation as gay Catholic Christians is a theologically valid (if minority) position. Clinically, within a context of gay-affirmative psychotherapy it is demonstrated that an application of conscience/dissent to the magisterial teaching of the Church can be a fruitful way of helping a gay Catholic client individuate and achieve greater freedom to live deeply both humanly and spiritually."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133909712371712,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:26:46.937Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:50:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:25:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"994955f4-0dbb-4792-a791-c0abddb16b62","accessControl_ssim":["08226af4-7b5c-45a9-9e21-c79544a74337"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Living beyond the tears: grief and the recovering alcoholic"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:50:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:37:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5427d77a-3b4b-409e-a818-8d5bd88213e2"],"hasLease_ssim":["4eda4c86-3771-4b49-bdb3-7c3ad134d0a6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["J Earl Thompson"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Patricia A Kogut"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Grief","Alcohol","Alcoholism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The study explores the interaction between alcoholism and the grief process for the alcoholic in recovery.
