A literature review shows the laity's basic role in mission at the beginning of the twentieth century was to provide resources for church expansion.  During the twentieth century social and political crises forced the Episcopal Church to include social service in its mission understanding.  The 1979 Prayer Book provides a clear statement for lay mission.  In the project a clergy-lay team produced a study guide of the baptismal service for adult use.  The study guide questions engage the participant in theological reflection about personal mission. The project leads towards three sermons to be composed by interacting the disciplines addressed by those courses.  The sermons will draw from two or three (instead of the accustomed one) lections for a Sunday in Epiphany, Lent and Easter, 1988.  All of life's services want to be stimulated, motivated, excited, equipped and directed by worship's exercises and experiences. Films that were pastoral in theme were the primary focus of this research.  A document was completed which addressed the theological and practical considerations of utilizng media in church educational programs, as well as the impact of media upon US culture and churches.  The project then addressed the pastoral role the author fulfills within the Churches of Christ while functioning as a hospital chaplain.  The development of a 39-minute video directed towards enhancing laity's Christian response to the seriously ill was the final aspect of the project.  Resources were utilized to help focus upon script writing, patient interviews, and securing visual supplemental materials. After these components were completed, the editing process began, blending all of these components plus utilizing decision-making skills of the author's hospital experiences and the resource persons' editing expertise. A process was developed for drafting, revising, and approving a mission statement using sermons, surveys, committee evaluations, and congregational information meetings.  This model for change places a high priority on the role of pastor as preacher, liturgist, and theologian. Cities are filled with diverse people, problems, needs, and resources.  Many urban teenagers struggle to survive amidst the diverse and challenging context of the cities.  Demographic changes will bring more culturally diverse groups of people into the communities and churches of cities.  Church youth programs that are rooted in universal and normative principles are inadequate to youth. Designed to introduce adult study groups and individuals to a deeper experience of the sacrament, the project focuses on five 'facets of grace': koinonia, anamnesis, eucharistia, thusia and eschaton.  Koinonia is God's grace in our connectedness to God and to one another at the table. Anamnesis is God's grace in our remembrance.  In recognizing Christ at the table we are enabled to remember our own identity as children as God. Eucharistia is God's grace in our thanksgiving that we are claimed and named by God, and are moved to respond in joyful thanksgiving for the grace we have received.  Thusia is God's grace in our sacrifice of ourselves as we offer ourselves in loving service to the world. This project/dissertation is for MDiv students destined for (Hispanic) bilingual, bicultural assemblies. School, students, and underlying homiletic foundations are examined.  Homilies are described as: biblical, liturgical, kerygmatic, and familiar conversation.  Syllabus includes overall description, learning objectives, class session organization, and bibliographic references for required readings; also two full session outlines, lab procedures, critiques from practicing professors, suggestions for further study, and analysis of spirituality for preachers, described as hearing, becoming, and preaching the Word.
