Eight weekly sessions were conducted involving twelve recent candidates for membership. Individual pre-training and post-training interviews with questionnaires were conducted to provide information as to any changes in interest, attitude and/or understanding of the meaning of church membership. Training sessions included a grounding in the six major dimensions of the Christian faith and the meaning of living the gospel. Through this project it was not possible to determine whether the training process would or would not prevent these new members from becoming inactive. The new members definitely increased their understanding of the faith. Interest and enthusiasm was engendered for more study of scripture and the mission of the church. The project also pointed up new directions for our ministry, i.e., the need for a well-planned, total faith-sharing program complete with training workshops, faith-sharing Sundays, and followup."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127266851291136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:41:11.811Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:37:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8e8e2a8c-6728-4427-98b4-69658891a6c7","accessControl_ssim":["77db0363-5c85-4033-976f-3d741261b243"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Kavanaugh 2000: developing long-range congregational goals and assessing pastoral leadership skills in response to a...changing community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:18:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["652f9e4b-f0c9-425c-a025-9a298881720c"],"hasLease_ssim":["a74ffd80-ac86-4bdf-a383-b25e7dd40c8b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Stanley J Menking"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry W George"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Planning"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project was developed to address the need of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church (Greenville, Texas) to establish long-range goals and assess pastoral leadership skills for mission and ministry. Using the structure as mandated by the Discipline of the United Methodist Church, a task force was formed and charged with creating the design and its implementation. The practicum was conducted over a six-month period with the task force meeting with the pastor for an extensive period of six weeks. The task force, using a shared praxis approach, dealt with issues related to faith development for both preschool children and adults. The specific goal of this project is to expand the theoretical foundation upon which crisis ministries are built and to provide a practical model that clergy can use in crisis intervention. Methodology was academic research and case study. The seven step crisis intervention model for clergy was helpful in a number of contexts of crisis ministry: individual and family crisis; a psychiatric emergency; a congregation in crisis; a community racial conflict; and, a major crisis in Mississippi jails and prisons. Evaluators believed that a straightforward and simple model was useful in providing a 'map' during intervention and a system of accountability and evaluation following the intervention."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873188025204736,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:51:36.661Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:52:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"97517521-4abc-4ad5-9637-875f64694b49","accessControl_ssim":["4c9241f9-f88b-4a73-ab79-69d1a0b6b913"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The identification of learning needs in local churches as a basis for motivating improvement in teaching programs"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:33:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["49d6379a-2689-4504-b028-f4f6a29ababc"],"hasLease_ssim":["5feb33a9-0add-4514-ac13-2dc388d48c2d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert W Ferris"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ivan W Bowden"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Evidence suggests that the teaching ministry in today's church is weaker than in New Testament churches. The dissertation offers a model for motivating improvement based on the identification of three types of need: felt, real and educational. Members of four churches from different denominations rated topics and took a 50-item test on Bible, doctrine, missions, and ethics prepared with the help of a modified Delphi technique. Significant needs were exposed. Real need was not always matched by a felt need, casting doubt on its motivating power. Real need in long-standing and better-educated Christians was not significantly lower."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127953906597888,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:52:07.038Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:01:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"62be1c12-70b2-4858-8283-334083c8c6b6","accessControl_ssim":["37378f9b-d402-41a4-b22e-a051deb35cfa"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An analytical study of the growth of Grace Church, Sioux Falls, South Dakota"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:01:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["19520ceb-76a8-4cbd-8ec1-d1da14271264"],"hasLease_ssim":["b6aefd22-2547-41cf-99f2-85d95a091c46"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["James Mason"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas J Bell"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis is a case study of the growth of a church plant. The gospel of Luke records that first century hearers of the gospel altered their relationship with possessions by either abandoning or sharing them with others in need. When Jesus instructed his disciples to take nothing for their missionary journey he expected that their radical dependence on God for necessities would speak as loudly as their words. Twenty-five participants were asked to study Luke/Acts on this subject and a paper on simplicity as a practical application of Jesus' teaching to the 1990s. After a two-month period written reports from each participant were summarized in the conclusion of the dissertation. The results indicated a heightened awareness of the proper place of possessions in their lives and that Jesus' teachings affected them by causing a change of attitude and/or behaviour."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135249578590208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:04.733Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":449,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
