Values espoused by not rewarded are not seen as valuable. Values-in-use are values that are supported by rewards whether espoused or not.  The leaders' evaluation of how well their reward system supports their espoused values did not change significantly. The resource was developed, then tested in three congregations with three different leaders. The covenant model was chosen because it most clearly defines several significant aspects of the Christian experience.  A believer's position in Christ, privileges, and responsibilities were all important topics of the course.  Chapter 2 defines covenant theology and expresses how this approach is beneficial to all believers. Chapter 3 reveals the foundational nature of all human development, including faith development.  Stage development theory, simply stated, is that all maturity progresses through a series of stages that are hierarchical in nature; meaning that they build upon one another. Christian maturity also depends upon a strong foundation for successful progress. A historical, biblical and theological study of the doctrine of the image of God was conducted in order to undergird the concept of human worth as taught in Purkey's model.  The social and psychological foundations for the invitational model are also investigated.  A control group and an experimental group each consisting of twenty people were selected from the church.  The experimental group was taught Purkey's model.  Pre/post-tests were given to each group.  The post-test revealed that the experimental group had become more inviting. It was hoped that the process would enhance personal growth for the participants.  The author shared stories for twelve weeks on Wednesday evenings with the congregation.  Members of the congregation would then divide into small groups and reflect upon the story.  Three instruments were used as pretests and posttests: the Myers-Briggs type indicator, the Tennessee Self-Concept, and the Bem Sex-Role Indicator. Chapter 2 looks at biblical storytelling.  In chapter 3 the focus is upon the ways that storytelling can help individuals to change. The fourth chapter assesses the testing instruments.  The last chapter is an evaluation of the project and offers suggestions for future ministry. There was evidence of change and community building.
