Conversion of the purse is most difficult for most mainline Protestants in the 1990s. This project preaches a series of seven sermons from Luke/Acts to elicit 'conversion of the purse.' The texts are Lk 4:16-30, Lk 19:1-10, Lk 11:1-4, Lk 12:13-21, Acts 4:32-5:11, Acts 19:23-41 and Lk 6:20-26, which offer a variety of literary form and content. The sermons ask: Does God side with the poor? Can a rich person be saved? When is enough enough? Does life consist in the abundance of one's possessions? Is the choice between giving and dying? Is the way we make our money as important to stewardship as the way we spend our money? Are the poor really blessed? Exegesis draws from Luke Timothy Johnson, theology from Robert Farrar Capon, Richard J. Foster, and Douglas John Hall, and homiletical method from Fred B Craddock and Thomas G Long."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135081931210752,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:45:24.852Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:51:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:25:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5b0b5265-03b4-4ff3-b30e-571688d7f2a3","accessControl_ssim":["58709668-6570-4119-bb8c-19350fffc929"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A program for exploring grief experiences: preparing and equipping children for coping with death"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:51:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:48:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["05a44ebd-c435-488c-93b0-79a92ad32e3c"],"hasLease_ssim":["7a5c4aec-3284-4c59-95f7-2a0e8165b33f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Drew University"],"advisor_tesim":["Arthur Hagy"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Patricia A Bush"],"publisher_tesim":["Drew University Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral counseling--Study and teaching","Church work with children","Children and death","Grief"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Grieving children need an opportunity to explore death and grief as issues of faith. Hispanic theology strives to find points of contact between the socio-historical experience of Latino communities and their religious expressions. Latino theological thought discusses topics which are important for the Latino people--like migration--by confronting the challenges of today with the biblical and theological experiences of the past. Hispanic theologians establish a correlation between the social location of the Latino people and that of the biblical texts. The implications of this correlation are evoked by a key metaphor that embodies their findings and functions, thus, as a paradigmatic concept. Then, the paradigm is used to exegete both the Bible and Hispanic reality. This dissertation discusses such thesis and states the implications of this hermeneutical model for Latino theological thought."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128761853280256,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:04:57.555Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:44:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:40:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"01be3aae-acae-4f97-bae2-f95758b7ee11","accessControl_ssim":["6bca6877-783e-4853-9172-65a80fa586cb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Treatment of drug and alcohol addiction within the context of Christian ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:44:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:10:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dbee5da0-8bfc-4c0f-903f-d549ab877c1b"],"hasLease_ssim":["475e4a18-dff9-43ea-8b79-4969a7d24599"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Drew University"],"advisor_tesim":["Hugh Nash"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kermit K Kneen"],"publisher_tesim":["Drew University Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with addicts"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Some experts have identified alchohol and drug addictions as primarily spiritual problems, noting that awakened spirituality usually plays a role in recovery. The mutual incomprehension leads to tensions in interpersonal relationships, which almost collapse the evangelization. The results of the analysis allow an adjoining and a clarification of misconceptions. This clearly defines lines of mutual action to be taken.
