Two churches that split fifteen years ago because of a dispute about leadership decided to merge again. This project uses the reconciliation of these two churches as a model for other congregations that may consider merging.  Three major criteria--philosophical, relational, and physical--are crucial factors for a successful merger.  Hindrances to unity stemmed from spiritual conflicts and a process requiring unanimous decisions.  Conflicts involved leadership issues, power plays by individuals, personal preferences about worship, and conflict over Christian life teaching that led to tabling the merger and renewed division. Beginning with a general survey of the origin, history, and theological implications of each feast, the project develops contemporary worship models for the church.  Each model separately highlights a feast in an innovative way so that it may then be implemented and evaluated. On the hypothesis that few churches sponsoring Christian schools are training members who are parents of students in these schools in evangelism, the project surveyed churches that sponsor schools and are also members of either the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) or Texas Association of Baptist Schools (TABS). The project includes a literature search on the subject of 'mentoring', a survey of pastoral internship opportunities offered by a representative group of evangelical seminaries and graduate schools of theology, a comparative analysis of three local church internship programs similar to the effort at Blue Church, and detailed appraisals of the six internships already served at Blue Church, carried out by means of personal interviews with each former intern. This project is a case study of the Philadelphia Seeker Project, describing the planting of a church based on small groups designed to reach the unchurched.  The project devotes significant attention to the history, mission, vision, strategy, structure, values, and beliefs of the church. The New Testament Epistles offer a unique model of discipleship for the church as well as content for discipleship training. The project develops a paradigm from the Epistles, which it then implements and evaluates for its effectiveness. By studying what these members felt and when they felt it, how the leaders of the congregations responded, and the lingering consequences of their loss of confidence, the project hopes to inform, direct, and encourage other congregations facing similar crises.
