Re-visiting Biblical texts from Genesis, Job and the Epistles, the author addresses themes including the goodness of God's creation, our relationship with the land, early Hebraic understandings of ecology, salvation of non-human entities, and, of course, the Biblical imperative to love our neighbor. This exegetical probe of the Bible concludes that our new neighbor, lying battered beside the road to Jericho, is the earth. The author draws on several scholars to evaluate the ethics of loving the earth, concluding that eco-spirituality invites believers to expand their reverence, respect, and love for each other and God to include God's creation--to value the earth as God values it. The author discusses mentors from the past who have blended their love of God with their love of the earth and provides two group exercises in eco-spirituality as teaching models for Christian educators."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135129016467456,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:46:09.756Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:31:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8ecdda7a-4928-4d7d-8b5a-85fcecfcf41d","accessControl_ssim":["f616f9e4-8466-45b5-a7cd-20d067faf8d6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Nourishing the faith of college students"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:31:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:18:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["073eb7dc-b073-48ee-8632-783f19790c12"],"hasLease_ssim":["8640bf15-660a-4c32-b2cc-384cbe950abb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael Nelson Miller","Ellen L Babinsky"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Debra Bergeson-Graham"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","College chaplains","Church work with students"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Christian college students want to find ways to nourish their faith. College chaplains often assume, and perhaps rightfully so, that students want to participate in Bible studies, worship and reflection groups, and service projects. Yet, sometimes both students and chaplains are unsure of what faith is and how it can be nourished. This project seeks to help college chaplains serving small, private, liberal arts, church-related colleges in answering these questions. Chapter 1, 'Faith and Faith Development,' offers a definition of faith, discusses faith development and nourishment. Chapter 2, 'The Action/Reflection Group,' reports on a small group of students who gathered to discuss faith. They identified their own spiritual gifts and discovered ways for using gifts to facilitate quality in ministry. The participants surveyed the ministries, and facilities of their church for areas in need of quality improvements, and developed a plan for making necessary upgrades. Finally, they examined methods for making plans based upon statistical data rather than church tradition."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716283059535872,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:59:55.971Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:08:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:29:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"355c0c06-706b-4ccd-ab3d-f3ddb820f84f","accessControl_ssim":["bf70417b-04f0-4f01-81f8-7336e82c1b6c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The anointed pulpit"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:08:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:40:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["aae3b423-a876-4454-836f-417f0873b528"],"hasLease_ssim":["40078eed-e6d6-42f6-a8b2-406ddc04f0bd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald E Demaray"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Don A McGregor"],"keyword_tesim":["Preaching, Church of God"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Holy Spirit"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The study explores the perceptions of the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching by focusing on the concept of anointing of the sermon. A literature review revealed several areas where preachers believe the Spirit brings anointing to a sermon including the personal preparation of the preacher, the sermon, the listener, the preaching event itself, and the Word of God. A survey of 178 Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) pastors was conducted. The theological foundation for the study is grounded in a trinitarian understanding of humankind as created in the image of God. To obtain the data, Ellison and Paloutzian's Spiritual Well-Being Scale (© 1982) was used in conjunction with a research-designed Attitudes Regarding Sexuality Questionnaire. Data were colllected from a convenient sample. Analysis of the results is limited by a small sample size.
