Faith mentoring is understood as accompaniment that assists in vocational, relational and spiritual growth. Following Sandra Matthei's model for faith mentoring, three dimension of faith mentoring are discussed (incarnational, contextual, relational) and four roles explored (guide, guarantor, model, mediator). The method of addressing each correspondent was informed by social analysis concerning Filipino cultural values and Charles Taylor's three stage metanoia model. The study concluded that faith mentoring works best under the following conditions: 1) correspondence is a continuance of a relationship rather than the beginning of one; 2) the correspondent has ready access to confidential, easy-to-use email at school or preferably at home; and 3) the faith mentor is committed to a supervisory relationship, observing professional boundaries in a culture characterized by dual relationships."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717813839986688,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:24:15.838Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:30:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:50:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2ff63408-a177-4114-8a85-8755cff68cc9","accessControl_ssim":["51aacc16-554d-484a-99dc-4ae1627b062d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Dancing with Habitat: the graceful yet sometimes awkward relationship of local church and Habitat"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:30:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:31:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["46ac1f73-c8dd-4052-b5c2-e83f0757cdd3"],"hasLease_ssim":["33150c68-4b3f-4290-950b-776739c6553c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["George W Stroup"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["H Joseph Martin"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Housing","Habitat for Humanity International, Inc"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis is that the Habitat-church relationship is mutually beneficial especially as strengths and weaknesses are better understood. The proposed weaknesses are that the relationship may be hindered by a church's sense of territoriality, by a church's financial constraints, and by the immensity of the housing problem. The project will include preaching an eleven-week series of sermons on Sunday mornings that focus on five biblical functions and four specific needs of the church. The functions and needs include evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, worship, commitment, organization, vision, and prayer. In addition, a series of lessons will be taught on Wednesday nights that focus on the same functions and needs. However, the Wednesday lessons will differ from the Sunday sermons by highlighting different aspects. A better understanding of the functions and needs should result in developing effective ministries. The aim of the series is to present the need for a shift in ministry focus that leads the church to revitalization and both spiritual and numerical growth. New ministry options will be explored and examined by a Task Force. The purpose of this project was the development of a procedural manual, which will enable pastors in the North American Baptist Conference (NABC) to gain insight into how a good ministry fit can be found. The research methodology entailed a series of interviews. The sample interviewed represented 12.8 percent of the overall number of pastors in the conference who had recently gone through pastoral transition. The project establishes eight phases of the transition process. The issues of each phase are detailed. The final section of the project is 'A Pastoral Transition Manual.' The completed manual enables the pastor to place a comprehensive profile in the data system of the NABC placement office, and addresses the issues the pastor will face in the process of change."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132280633163776,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:53.326Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:29:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:35:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8ed07433-71a2-4ae9-8c75-52587990d795","accessControl_ssim":["df7454ae-67cc-42f0-aa4e-fcc90e0605b6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Images of God, images of power"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:29:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:18:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bce32ee2-6fc7-441c-8eff-a070bc3c3bab"],"hasLease_ssim":["eedcfcbd-b1f1-49f2-9263-6f459a69f650"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Nancy J Ramsay"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Janet Macgregor-Williams"],"publisher_tesim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Power (Philosophy)","Worship--Study and teaching","Image of God"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper explores the meaning of power: how the people of God understand power. (Matthew 28:19). Making disciples has two components; bringing unbelievers into a committed relationship with Jesus Christ, and developing believers into more mature disciples. To make mature disciples is to cultivate their growth in what John Wesley called holiness of heart and life. This study examines the use of biblical narrative preaching as a means of developing the Christian discipleship of those in United Methodist churches. This is an experiment in the use of biblical narrative preaching as a conduit through which people can experience the risen Lord Jesus and be formed and transformed by his presence. This study seeks to address the need for United Methodist Christians to enter the transforming power of Jesus Christ through biblical narrative. John Wesley gave a call to holiness of heart and life, the life of God living in the heart of men and women. Wesley articulated what it means to have that life of Christ living and moving us. Operationalizing Wesley's practical divinity, I placed holiness of heart and life into seven categories for evaluation. This study measured the degree of growth in holiness of heart and life of those who experienced four months of biblical narrative preaching. The experiment took place in a United Methodist church in the Florida Annual Conference. The community was a combination of northern retirees and young middle to lower middle-class families with children. A researcher-designed instrument was used as a pre-test, mid-test, and post-test tool to explore the degree of change in subjects over a four-month preaching experience. The results were tabulated, and analyzed in chapters 4 and 5. Statistical analysis of the resulting data confirmed a degree of significant change. This change was, however, temporary, giving insight into the true role of preaching in the ongoing process of disciple making. The study concludes that preaching is vital for opening the door to people's spiritual lives. Preaching brings people to repentance, sparks conviction and conversion, fosters growth, and inspires action. In order to move people from the temporary response to long-term growth in holiness of heart and life they must be integrated into other disciple building ministries."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134589757947904,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:37:35.479Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:29:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:58:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1c635c05-c322-42e6-8173-18ad72c9d897","accessControl_ssim":["aa3bac54-7013-4706-b000-43ae8ac0a4fb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The future ministry of the Salvation Army officer"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:29:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:58:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["46244175-ae6a-415b-b39c-0492e05bdca1"],"hasLease_ssim":["76fdcc0b-2709-4d07-beb9-2bc73ea66954"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ellis L Larsen"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
