This study concerns itself with relationships and how intimacy, conflict, and communication affect codependent relationships. The study examines the Bible, analytical psychology, and traces relationships from biblical times to the present. The project presents a psycho-educational view, which combines and integrates psychology and religion. Combining the cognitive, affective, and spiritual, this project presents a curriculum that specifically speaks to individuals with poor skills in maintaining relationships due to codependent behavior patterns. The approach used is outlined and presented in a ten week intensive course. Utilizing the tenets of family therapy, education, and the Bible, the course assists participants in addressing and working through prior experiences that hinder the forming and maintaining of healthy relationships. The foundation for the research is a biblical-theological investigation and an analysis of specific pastor's work in different eras of history.  Using a survey, the author collected data from pastors.  The survey targeted the amount of time spent during the work week in the following areas: administration, counseling, preaching/teaching, visitation and other pastoral duties. The Free Methodist Church is a movement of holiness, evangelism, social action and mission.  Its pioneer leaders were both laity and clergy. The leadership team studied Matthew 28:19-20 and devised a Great Commission Purpose Statement, and then studied New Testament functions of the church and developed a Church Mission Statement to carry out the Great Commission Statement.  Through a study of biblical priorities, it became apparent that the church was imbalanced particularly in the areas of evangelism and discipleship training for ministry, so two key programs were begun in these areas. Research on the life of Christ and other materials on encouragement resulted in a manual consisting of five subjects pertaining to encouragement.  One of the goals was to obtain an understanding of encouragement that goes beyond the general idea of simply being positive or affirming. While benefits to the corporate membership can be derived through effective public prayers, the prayer leader, himself, will be a special beneficiary. The training has three objectives for the project participants: (1) increase knowledge of the origin, culture, character, theology and religious practices of the target group; (2) develop skill in witnessing; and (3) persevere in witnessing. The project engaged an eight phase process which included the following study: (1) theology of witnessing; (2) knowledge of basic history, culture, and theology and religious practices related to witnessing; (3) presentation of witnessing module; (4) and how to persevere in witnessing.  Testing instruments were also developed to test all goals and objectives. It asked if their leadership style was congruent with or impacted by the denomination's theology.  Following an overview of the history and theology of the Brethren in Christ, an argument was presented for servant leadership as the leadership style suited for this denomination.  A biblical basis for servant leadership and the spiritual formation of the leader was developed.  Robert Greenleaf's work on servant leadership was reviewed, and his impact on current leadership practices and their congruence with Christian authors was assessed.  John Ortberg's work was used to develop a scale to measure felt and observed leadership/servant qualities.  The core values of the denomination provided a way to measure the theological commitments of its pastors.
