The author researched ways in which ministers experience the tension between primary tasks of ordained ministry, of which relationships with the poor are a part, and the more tangible and measurable secondary and tertiary marks of ministry. The method of study for this project was largely ethnographic, consisting of field interviews with fifteen elders. He also gives definitions and brief history of pastoral care and counseling and reviews various counseling methods including his son. The author concludes: his method is useful for healing a person with chronic and complex suffering, yet directive approach might be more useful for persons in different situations. Counseling provides healing conditions, yet it is the Holy Spirit that heals; contemporary healing ministries also require faith from persons suffering and/or people around and healers' compassion given from God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718375311540224,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:33:11.299Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:58:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:32:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1bdd1058-c957-4c18-8068-2949ca8a70df","accessControl_ssim":["d2c98290-6d85-4b1d-a759-b1c5189fda02"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Companioning the spirit: spiritual caregiving during a terminal illness"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:58:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:57:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e95ba2f1-65c9-4c73-87e0-9a3dbcb26a81"],"hasLease_ssim":["b0964570-4c4f-4c7b-9ba2-2a373d7b599d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["K Samuel Lee"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
