The particular genre is expository preaching. The student's personal faith journey, theological views of Scripture and the embrace of expository preaching in discipleship development are highlighted. The doctoral paper provides a description of the context within which the project was developed, and the motivations that led to the founding of the congregation. The student implemented this strategy through a series of expository sermons followed by a focus group to reflect, respond, interact and evaluate relevance, contents, form and outcome. Appropriate instruments were provided to the group to facilitate the model."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720517297504256,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:07:14.056Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:41:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ed654ed3-5125-408b-9b8c-7b84e5e2351a","accessControl_ssim":["0cdc833c-a1e5-4590-847b-e8f0a4b97ec1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A self guided church consultation for Calvary Baptist Church of Fargo, North Dakota"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:41:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:54:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3c3c9378-0715-4efb-933c-d10695ad4766"],"hasLease_ssim":["5f12d8a0-b9b1-46a4-ab4b-887927c027bd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael S Lawson"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William H Pharis"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Calvary Baptist Church (Fargo, ND)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Calvary Baptist Church of Fargo, North Dakota, began its ministry in 1883. The methodology used included an opening survey, four weeks of historical and theological study, two weeks of liturgical and biblical comparison, two weeks of practical application, and a final evaluation. The research revealed the lack of liturgical understanding and connection of many adult Byzantine Catholics. The results of the project disclosed an increased understanding of the divine liturgy, and active participation in the liturgical life of St. Andrew Byzantine Catholic Church in Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126557233774592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:29:55.067Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:40:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:47:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e3df3bd0-1f40-4194-bb71-e699578256f0","accessControl_ssim":["418c45ec-dde3-4b72-8fdb-714714b985f7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Recounting God's story with a poetic imagination: a biblical presentation aimed at cultivating assurance and hope in the elderly believers at The Caring Place Nursing Home"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:40:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:38:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["597dee4d-f562-41f1-9a25-9b5358de1931"],"hasLease_ssim":["3d56a732-644b-4d72-8209-84fb56b5f1b2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Andrew Purves"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert J Guy"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Caring Place Nursing Home","Older people--Care","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project consisted of an eight-week overview of the whole of Scripture, highlighting the primary themes and the essential substance of the Christian faith. It addressed the common lack of security and certainty in the spiritual lives of elderly believers. Using narrative form and the text's own poetic imagery, the presentation communicated both cognitively and intuitively the heart of Scripture as a means of cultivating assurance and hope in Christ in those whose rational faculties are diminishing. The study was evaluated by personal observation and by both formal and informal interviews. Building on a survey of relevant literature, a five-week adult Christian education course was developed as well as a survey that assessed the participants' understanding of the issues. The class was taught five times with the survey being administered as both a pretest and a posttest. The results were analyzed and the null hypothesis, this class will not have a significant impact on the participants' understanding of a Reformational worldview or the issues being raised by the information technology community, was not rejected.
