The writer concluded that attention to biblically-based spiritual disciplines in the context of a grace-oriented local church providing caring, accountable, mentoring relationships was the consistent path to spiritual growth through church history.  Qualitative research with focus groups from three large evangelical churches confirmed this. This chapter lists specific ways to retain and dismiss volunteers. The methodology used to achieve this was a pretest survey, a four-sermon series, and a post test survey.  The findings of this project confirmed that there is a definite relationship between expository preaching and spiritual growth. However, the metaphors of the first four centuries have dominated. These metaphors reflect patriarchal, priestly and platonic worldviews, which are being challenged in this post-modern era. These metaphors also fail to reflect the diverse imagery and thought of the Bible. Alternative metaphors are widely used in scholarship. The consultant assists local pastors in Lancaster, South Carolina, to develop a team ministry approach within each fellowship. Chapter 2 shows a biblical basis for a team ministry. This chapter builds upon the Old Testament ministry of Elijah, Moses, Jethro, and the New Testament teachings of Jesus and the Apostle Paul. Chapter 3 is based upon team development as it is developed in the business world. Attention is given to how the business world succeeds in the development of teams. Chapter 4 is the consultant's project for helping pastors develop a team ministry within their congregations. 'A Path for Team Development' was created by the consultant to accomplish this task. Chapter 5 concludes with an analysis of the project. this chapter is an evaluation of the successes and failures for each church in the study. The context of this study is Trinity United Church of Christ, a sub-urban, predominantly European-American congregation located on the north side of Columbus, Ohio, which desires to grow.  The methodology used to achieve this goal is an intervention, composed of four interwoven facets, designed as a unit to remove barriers that prevent church growth.  The findings of this project confirm that church growth becomes probable through this intervention. Three models of incarnational mission in community development were presented as case studies: Canaan Farmer's School, Doo-Rae Community Movement, and Da-Il Community Church. Findings were related to historical and practical studies, and to theological reflections.
