It included only the first six sessions of a proposed twenty four session strategy. The project was effective as a pilot strategy and will continue to be edited. The curricula was a combination of materials complied by the project leader and materials written by the project leader. The project leader read books, studied other discipleship materials, conducted interviews, and utilized several evaluations tools to attain and measure the goals of this strategy. This project evaluated the recreation and sports ministry curriculum that was being used by various Baptist Universities, private universities, and some state universities across the United States. The project leader consulted with five nationally recognized organizations. Participants at the Recreation and Sports Ministry Conference in Lake Yale, Florida, were surveyed along with Recreation Administration graduates from Oklahoma Baptist University. The project was conducted in three stages: the enlistment of potential leaders, the training of the leaders, and the enlistment of leaders and assignment of participants to specific Shepherd Groups. The purpose of this study was to explore systemic factors, denominational and district, that restrict local church health as well as to propose tracks for strategic effectiveness within the Western Canadian District (WCD).  The project utilized four sources of data: focus groups with delegates to the CMAC General Assembly 1998, a national survey of the CMAC, regional meetings with WCD pastors, and a statistical review of WCD churches. The research findings describe the types of contexts, people, relationships, experiences and activities that were significant. The goals of the project were achieved through the teaching of a Bible class at Pleasant Grove Christian Academy in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. Chapter 3 also defines the parameters of the project and defines the major terms to be used. Chapter 4 is an overview of how the project proceeded. It provides a complete description of the methodology and the reasons certain methods were used to achieve the goals of the project. Chapter 5 provides the results of the project and an evaluation of whether the goals of the project were reached. In a two-phase process, the project director equipped a small group of church members, who then discipled another individual. Theologically, the basis of the project stems from Jesus' training of His disciples, with additional references to Paul's training of disciples like Timothy.  The project director worked to develop a disciple-making team in a local church historically weak in informed, intentional disciple making.  As a result of the project, the participants formed a team to plan and implement a discipleship strategy for the church.
