This will be accomplished by equipping the project leader with the training and tools needed to develop this type of ministry.  He will then provide training to a small group of volunteers who are interested in beginning a Christian community economic development ministry at First Baptist Church of Austin, Texas.  The team will then utlilize their training to implement a project that provides an opportunity for students to learn computer skills at an orphanage in Juarez, Mexico.  This type of ministry should be a foundational element of a church's comprehensive evangelical outreach program. Profile and survey data for 126 adult members received over a six-year period were used to study factors influencing their experience with the church, with the pastor, and their preparation for membership.  A program of monthly pastoral correspondences for the member's first year was designed to encourage biblically based responses in two-way communication with the pastor. The writer will assist non-Christians, who have experienced cross-cultural differences, to understand salvation and will equip Christians to conduct cross-cultural evangelism. Using successful examples of overcoming cultural differences as models, a selected cell group will be equipped with biblical and theological knowledge about cross-cultural evangelism so it can effectively communicate Christ cross-culturally.  This project proposes a model for cross-cultural evangelism at Korean First Baptist Church of Waco, Texas based on a church cell group. First, the theological foundation for cross-cultural evangelism, which are found in the Bible, will be presented.  Second, based on these biblical principles, a model cell group will be established. Third, this cell group will stimulate church growth using innovative methods of cross-cultural evangelism, which will include formal discipleship training.  The meaning of the incarnation will be the basis for a philosophy of ministry to communicate the gospel cross-culturally. I used the explanatory method and the questionnaires in this project.  In chapter one, I introduced the Emmaus Korean UMC: demographic data, programs, ministry, mission, and organization.  In the second chapter, I showed the biblical concepts of discipleship in the Old and New Testaments.  In the third chapter, I dealt with the contemporary practices of discipleship training.  In the fourth chapter, I made a research through using the survey method with questionnaires.  In the fifth chapter, the conclusion is made.  All in all, I emphasized that the discipleship training has been tremendously influencing the growth of Emmaus Korean UMC, spiritually and quantitatively. Being recognized by him as persons of value and God-given identity enabled these nonpersons to see themselves as beloved children of God. Since the church often has failed in welcoming the stranger: the homeless, homosexuals, and other marginalized people, a Bible Study was developed that emphasized the lost spiritual discipline of hospitality. The author will lead the group in discovering important biblical truths, as well as certain characteristics of servanthood.  The group will then be encouraged to nurture the church and community by developing a committee known as SON (Serving Our Neighborhood).  The author accepted the call of pastor on January 10, 1999.  The congregation at First Baptist is composed mainly of retired people who have moved to the Broaddus area due to its proximity to Lake Sam Rayburn.  The people of First Baptist appear uncertain of their calling and specific ministry for the community. It is the aim of this project to offer a focus and an opportunity for the church members to realize their potential as servants and to discover their unique calling from God. The church will then transmit that calling into a ministry suited for the community. Responses of 104 African-American participants from a large Midwestern city indicated that interpersonal issues were a major factor.  Personal issues also played an important role in people leaving the church.  A large segment (45.2%) of the participants said that nothing could have been done to keep them. The author studies the historical origins of the denomination and sister denominations to determine the ecology of the Church.  Community diversity and postmodernism influence this problem.  The author interviewed 68 individuals regarding reasons for leaving churches.  Sociological differences, varying stages of faith development, and possible misunderstanding give insight on the gap between pastor and congregants.  Rediscovering the communal foundation of the Eucharist may help.
