Volunteers took part in an intensive eight-week Christian caregiving course.  The course was designed to equip members with the basic skills necessary to provide competent pastoral care.  Three evaluative tools were used as the primary data gathering instruments: a caregivers' survey, a caregivers' interest questionnaire, and the Christian caregivers' course evaluation.  Results indicated that participants had the passion, gifts, and skills necessary for a care-oriented ministry. Church planters appraised the value of their pre-field training and practical experience.  Mission agency executives explained their process for candidate selection. The course explored the Biblical call to transformation, stages of faith development, and twelve spiritual disciplines (solitude, silence, practicing the presence of Christ, fasting, secrecy, physicality and spirituality, Christian meditation, study, simplicity, rest, practicing justice, and perseverance). Understanding this teaching can help Christian believers orient themselves around the values and purposes of the kingdom.  The director designed an eight session study manual and preached four sermons on the kingdom of God and its implications for people's lives.  He used a focus group, tests and questionnaires to measure the effect of the study on the participants. The ability to utilize music appropriately and skillfully is instrumental in bringing about an awareness of the manifested presence of God during worship. The study focused on the Gospel of John and the communication of five doctrinally specific messages, which were preached to a congregation of military men and women, Department of Defense workers, retirees, and their families. The planning process examines a church's readiness for growth using evaluative tools to determine effective leadership structure and readiness to initiate a disciple making ministry.  These tools include the development of mission and vision statements, core values, and guiding principles as well as assessments of the community, community ministries, and the church itself measuring the congregation's readiness for ministry. The ten issues highlighted were: (1) who am I? (2) God's Word, (3) prayer, (4) solitude, (5) time, (6) pain, (7) temptation, (8) humility, (9) forgiveness, and (10) the evidence, which is the fruit of the Spirit.  The project was accomplished in ten teaching sessions which lasted 1 1/2 hours per session.  Individual mentoring was also part of the process. Each resulting data profile was analyzed to confirm that the selected church model matched the church planter and his mission field context.
