Research included an investigation of acting techniques, observation of videotaped sermons, engagement with a Parish Project Group who assisted in the preparation and critique of sermons, and feedback achieved through questionnaires and group discussions. The psycho-physical nature of public performance can be described by four terms--atmosphere, connection, concentration, radiation. Using the Whiteheads' model and method of doing practical theology, this study has moved from practice, to theory, to practice. A biblical interpretation of suffering, and a pastoral approach to coping with the problem, are suggested. The project invited lay people and clergy, engaged in the praxis of ministry to form a small peer group, to make a covenant as a group, to write theological reflections for shared discussion and group discussion and group reflection, and to move through a process of evaluation of this group experience in light of their ministries and faith lives. One of the assertions of this project is that people of faith and ministry, when engaged in theological reflection with peers realize a transformation of their faith life and in their praxis of ministry. And two, peers whose ministries and faith lives have been transformed by their experiences in peer theological reflection through God's grace will then become vehicles of transformation to the church at large. It begins with a study of the lives of Moses and Paul, and then reviews select, current leadership literature. This project interviewed 14 Assemblies of God leaders, and found that a pre-adolescent experience of faith in Christ and a stable home life were foundational in their lives. The experiment involved six adult participants and five resource guests, and lasted eleven weeks in the Autumn of 2002. The research project included role-playing and actival meetings with Jewish guests. Results were both academic and existential. Through three sermons I will show that law and gospel makes it possible to identify both the human and the spiritual dimensions of the text from the Bible and of life. Through guided interviews and assessment grids, I have discovered that churches, even older churches, may see God working through them as they examine their stories. By sharing these stories and recognizing their signs and symptoms, they can come a better understanding of themselves, their identity, and their mission. A survey of the Deacons and newer members of the congregation, along with research in mentoring and assimilation, provided materials to the Deacons to design and oversee the program in the congregation. Results demonstrated that family ties and denominational loyalty are not enough. New members need supportive and caring relationships to stay connected to the local church. Those without relationships tended to become inactive or move to another congregation.
