Each discipline is examined by integrating biblical insights with themes synthesized from writers representing Evangelical, Roman Catholic, and Jewish traditions. The study first lays a biblical and theological framework for pastoral leadership, the primacy of preaching and the corporate nature of the local church.  It then reviews literature on leadership, communication and change.  Through pastoral interviews and evaluations of a sermon series, it explores the role of preaching in initiating and maintaining positive change.  It also seeks to place preaching in the context of other leading activities, such as one-on-one leadership, board leadership, planning and initiating ministries. Materials related to the topic of preaching to career minded people were rare indeed.  research was done in the following areas: theology of work, the demands and challenges of the workplace, professionals and their values, Christians and their workplace, and preaching.  It is essential for clergy to preach relevant messages that display how to apply faith in the workplace.  Living authentic Christian lives at work will enable these career-minded people to be fully developed, and to influence the society in which we live.  Pastors need to understand these professionals, their work environment, and how to communicate effectively to help them connect faith and work. In the first phase of the Project clergy couples came together to examine and share the concerns and challenges they felt were unique to and being faced by clergy couples.  The couples developed a support group and felt understood for who they were and who God has called them to be.  Through a series of meetings, communications, and group sharing, the clergy couples brought healing, nurturing, and encouragement to one another. The corresponding chapters of this work are a combination of church and community history, a biblical/theological examination of the remnant, a consideration of the process of transition, and transition at Arlington Baptist church using a remnant of believers.  In terms of a new church rising from the ashes, the full potential has barely been realized. It is concerned with questions about the current nature of mentoring within the Free Will Baptist denomination especially , its educational institutions.  The primary premise of the work is that there is no formal structure for the mentoring of a new generation of ministers available to ministry students at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College.  The benefits to the student, mentor, church, and institution warrant development of such a formal structure to provide mentoring of ministry students.  The thesis begins with an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of Hillsdale College's current ministry training program. The concept of mentoring is defined as one in which the more skilled or more experienced person, serving as a role model, teachers, sponsors, encourages, counsels, and befriends, a less skilled or less experienced person for the purpose of promoting the latter's professional and or personal development.  This process must be done within the context of an ongoing caring relationship. Chapter one begins by examining the challenges that postmodern culture poses to preaching.  Chapter two defines postmodernism in three distinct but separate ways.  Chapter three uncovers the mood of postmodern culture and how postmodernism is, in many ways, an existential reaction to the downsides of modernity.  Chapter four focuses on discovering how America hears the gospel. understanding this is essential because it provides preachers with ample feedback on how listeners perceive the gospel.  Chapter five uses the metaphor of Greek mythology's Trojan Horse to anchor the concept that every culture possesses elements which function as barriers to the gospel.  Chapter six identifies elements within the culture which are user-friendly to the gospel. Chapter seven looks at oratorical and cultural factors which make messages stick to listener consciousness. Chapters eight and nine address the personal traits preachers must have to make a difference in a postmodern setting.
