It is the primary work of the church and the way the faith community partners with God in God's redeeming work in the world. However, the ministry of the church can often serve as a shallow substitute for a vital relationship with God. Luke's presentation of the early faith community in the book of Acts elevates prayer to its essential role in shaping the life and ministry of the church. While the major cause of this is a lack of biblical, theological truth applied at the pastoral level, the result of it is the disappearance of an important spiritual foundation necessary for the development and maintenance of spiritual stability in the modern church. The practice of worship in the Reformed Church initially was driven by a perspective fixed on a high view of God and characterized by a formal-liturgical style. That historical heritage was lost over time because changing perspectives allowed the introduction of a variety of styles that were heavily influenced by social and technological developments. These new and different worship expressions increasingly have ignored the important and unchanging biblical view of worship in favor of yielding to a demand for a more emotional experience. More importantly, the current trend is causing the church to become accustomed to the absence of an applied theology of worship. That theology is necessary for making good decisions regarding appropriate expressions of worship in the personal life and in the life of the local church for years to come. An examination of the biblical data from a historical and grammatical perspective revealed that worship is the expression of a Christian's commitment to a lifestyle of venerating God through an unceasing remembrance of his glory, a willing submission to his lordship, and a conscious life of spiritual service. Thus, the worship of God is designed to be the single most dominant spiritual feature of one's personal life and therefore the faith life of the church throughout the generations. This understanding is essential to promoting and sustaining healthy faith, so it must constantly be reaffirmed in the evangelical church. The most effective way to do that is in the training phase of present and future church leaders. The development and evaluation of a seminary training course on The Theology and Practice of Worship is designed to meet that need."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130749623074816,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:36:33.241Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:11:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:59:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"81ff1b97-01ae-4bd7-a4bf-a923f5ac13ee","accessControl_ssim":["74779859-3bda-4a28-8c65-277bdeda8a35"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The bivocational pastor: toward a healthy part-time arrangement for the fully-valued pastor and the fully-engaged congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:11:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:58:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["baec2502-3451-4d0a-861b-699d91c0107f"],"hasLease_ssim":["c4a2a97c-dbeb-4b88-b5f6-ea92662046a3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert L Brawley"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Diane Zaerr Brenneman"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy, Part-time","Church work as a profession","Mennonite Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Mennonite Church USA needs 50% of its candidates open to part-time or bivocational ministers, but only 10% were in 2005. The results of the process were positive; the exit survey showed the church improved in seven of its eight areas, with Passionate Spirituality improving only one point."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129332443250688,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:14:01.713Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:10:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:20:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eada8de3-245c-4c8e-bd9f-962b4477a514","accessControl_ssim":["f49f619c-f084-4b63-b923-cac4e5b58ce6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["From whence comes help: the church's ministry to ministers going through a forced resignation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:10:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:51:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["60913d32-8890-4543-a4b1-ca529bd71bb1"],"hasLease_ssim":["f056e52e-84e1-4601-ae31-df4821c14780"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["D Cameron Murchison"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bruce Lancaster"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Clergy--Resignation","Clergy--Mental health"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) mandates presbytery's responsibility for pastoral care of its member-ministers. Spiritual neglect leads to increased stress and burnout. This project focuses on ethnically and ecumenically diverse women in Greeneville, TN who report overwhelming personal chaos. Through examination of daily journals and weekly meeting, the spiritual discipline of lectio divina (praying the scriptures) is examined in how it impacts the participants' relationship with God and how praying the scriptures enhances their ability to cope.
