Two projects of home repair were secured with 33 people participating and 19 serving as a comparison group. Both groups received identical training and completed a Likert scale pretest and posttest questionaire. Pretest and posttest data from the Sex-Role Egalitarian Scale (SRES) and the Chinese Dyadic Adjustment Scale (C-DAS) indicated that the seminar was associated with an increase in mutual understanding and self awareness but was not correlated with the overall C-DAS score. Couple's gender ideology agreement and ministry compatibility are found to be correlated with the C-DAS score. Interviews and scaled response statements were employed to assess changes throughout the process. The results indicated that developmentally based performance reviews did generate improved job clarity and aligned staff members with the church vision. However, improved satisfaction with personal development was not supported. The amount of time the minister spent with his family in various ways contributed towards the connectedness the family feels with him. The minister and his wife must set and communicate realistic standards to the children. Teamwork between the parents in approaching tasks in the home, and respecting the volition of the mother lead to the wife and children's sense of the minister supporting the wife. Respect must be shown to all, by all. Evaluating the effectiveness of the curriculum couples completed the Dyadic Adjustment scale, the Confidence Scale, the Relationship Scale, and the Marital Satisfaction Inventory, Revised. The specific facet of mentoring considered is discipleship in leadership development and deployment. A 13-week mentoring program on leadership development and deployment was developed which focused on character, content, and competency. Lay-leaders where mentored through the project both individually and in small groups. Those team-members being led assessed the lay-leaders before and after the mentoring program. The lay-leaders' significantly improved in the areas of 'follower-ship' skills, knowledge and understanding in the discipline of leadership, and leadership skills. It uses a mixed method design that incorporated both descriptive and quantitative data analyses in an effort to determine the impact of: 1) family of origin and past life experiences, 2) missionary life stress, and 3) the practice of different disciplines on the lives of missionary men serving in cross-cultural contexts overseas. Overseas male missionaries from five North American evangelical mission agencies (617 men) were asked to participate in an anonymous web-based survey with 226 men completing the survey. Prevalent themes and factors impacting male missionary sexual purity emerged in the study. Study results point to the importance of past life experiences, the impact of cross-cultural life stresses, and the employment of specific disciplines. My hypothesis was that faith in God makes a difference in one's ability to be resilient, to spring back from adversity. I explored resiliency variables including childhood experiences, role models, personality traits, and different understandings of God. The diverse research identified numerous resiliency elements that were helpful to some and not to others. Consequently, each person had personal and unique resources for resiliency. My analysis resulted in the recognition of the importance of caring relationships.
