As the author recognized a growing spiritual maturity in his own life, he sought to ascertain if and how this was identifiable in the preaching event. The theory guiding this thesis is espoused in The Fully Alive Preacher by Mike Graves, which states 'if we want to become better preachers, we should first consider how we might become deeper persons.' The author found a symbiotic relationship between the spiritual maturity of the preacher and preaching. It also explores how Performance Criticism can lead to a new homiletic approach, which the author names Performance Homiletics. Through a few examples of sermons, the author articulates the nature and power of Performance Homiletics. The author conducted a random sample survey of Latino (males) from different parishes in the Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado. The study included questionnaires, personal interviews and observations as well as consultations with pastors, parochial vicars and lay Latino leaders. This project was designed to help students in Thailand begin a process of searching for exegetical models useful in their setting, testing a thesis that patristic modes of biblical exegesis may prove helpful. Attention was also given to the adjunct fields of New Testament interpretation of the Old Testament and biblical interpretation in the non-Western world. This project focuses on selected church members and the role of the memorial service as the substitute for the ancestral sacrifice. The history and form of ancestral sacrifice is explored and prayerful remembrance is studied in regard to the memorial service.
