The author focused on a particular congregation and ways in which small Bible study groups affected the cultural understanding of members.  She examined the complexities of culture and the significance of building relationships.  She worked with Paul Kimmel's definition of cultural understanding to examine the growth in understanding of persons utilizing a method called 'African Bible study.' The author researched how significant organizational change occurred during merger and what was learned.  The change occurred when the congregations experienced unfreezing, learning, and refreezing around a new identity.  St. Andrew and St. John members experienced significant learning that contributed to the success of the merger. This chapter considers theological foundations for mentoring. Chapter 3 considers Christian and secular perspectives on leadership including evaluation, communication, working with people, planning, and vision. Chapter 4 presents methodology and content in the project. The expectation was that exposure to alternatives to Darwinist explanations of origin in high school would result in religious practice in college and that there would be a negative correlation between a student's attitude toward Darwinism as an explanation and church attendance. An online survey of thirty-two questions was conducted on one-hundred seventy-five respondents. More than 6000 ministers were invited by e-mail and over 100 actually participated. Pre-test and post-test surveys measured changes in pastoral attitudes and behavior. Participants in the project were trained according to the findings of the research.  After being trained, they taught a new curriculum that reflects the research findings.
