But what does that change look like in the life of a believer? How is that changed developed? What part does the church play in the process of transformation? This dissertation explores the relationship between what pastors believe about personal transformation and how they approach the spiritual development of parishioners. While considering the wisdom of current writers and researchers, the study focuses on the thought and practice of 50 churches in the San Francisco Bay area of California and more specifically on five sample churches that are creatively exploring how to develop believers to spiritual maturity. The study concludes that there is a great need for a clearly articulated theology of change and for ministry designs that bring that theology to life. This dissertation is intended to contribute to the larger, ongoing conversation of spiritual formation. It offers a framework for developing a biblical theology of change and proposes corresponding approaches to worship, preaching, prayer, community and spiritual disciplines."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132190711480320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:59:27.570Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:46:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7c6804f3-2faa-4191-9afe-da248c2d15c2","accessControl_ssim":["aedd07c0-5256-4427-8603-06bbde3abbfa"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching the Trinity: the Charism of Father Judge"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:46:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:48:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3154ebb0-ba29-445c-892b-bfd0117490b2"],"hasLease_ssim":["d13023d0-f8b9-494b-af52-def2aa741a5b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Colleen Mary Mallon"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John S Edmunds"],"publisher_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","Saint Vincent de Paul, Society of","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Early in the twentieth century a Vincentian priest, Thomas Judge, gathered lay people to become missionaries 'in the providence of their everyday lives.' The project's main objective was to ascertain how prepared members of the Westport community were for a disaster and to design a disaster preparedness program that would provide for pastoral care to residents of the Westport community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129126761922560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:10:45.560Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:46:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f118968f-60be-4ccd-8885-fa0c48e13eb9","accessControl_ssim":["ea6bf619-5247-4dd6-a413-efe6d7c80e60"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sacred weavings: integrating spiritual practices into daily life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:46:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:01:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e897cf7b-3f86-47b0-afd4-27d2c09cf238"],"hasLease_ssim":["5385daed-6294-49d5-a6f7-769059984678"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"advisor_tesim":["Barbara Anne Keely"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Germaine R Smith"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual retreats","Spiritual life--Comparative studies","Chakras"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this thesis is to increase one's connection to the divine by means of a three-day retreat and an informational resource book, called The Sourcebook. The author used a qualitative research method for gathering data. Personal interviews from pastors faced with this dilemma, plus questionnaires and interviews from his family, churches and communities, where he pastored with his disabled wife, played a significant role in his research. As well, an archival research into the effects and challenges facing caregivers and their families added to his insights. From the heartrending anguish to the tender consolation resident in God's grace, the author reveals how the adjustments and acceptance of the challenges initiated a transformation that inadvertently provided consolation and inspiration to others."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132535646846976,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:04:56.526Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:45:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:14:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c4826c0f-dcbe-4809-b689-ec4ef41b7744","accessControl_ssim":["0eca9e34-233a-40e2-8c75-ad26b0089146"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Exploring the role of intentional Sabbath practices in the Christian spiritual formation of families with young children"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:45:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:46:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["23256bd9-e479-4e58-8070-6f8ed0cc7f7c"],"hasLease_ssim":["bf617486-0987-42e3-b78f-950026185de8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Rodger Nishioka","David L Bartlett"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jerry Douglas Adkins"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Sabbath","Spiritual life--Christianity","Family life education--Religious aspects--Christianity","Children--Religious life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Awareness of biblical/historical experiences of Sabbath, and an understanding of Sabbath practices, can provide unrealized possibilities for the journey of spiritual formation within a family. This project focuses on families in a particular congregation, and upon the noticeable impact of intentional Sabbath practices within their homes. The Participatory Action Research model of qualitative research is utilized in the development of this project. After surveying his context, the author facilitated a series of presentations on Sabbath. Following an extended period of time for participants to engage Sabbath practices, further data is collected. The before and after data are contrasted. The relational benefits of practicing Sabbath are detailed, and implications are made for the church at large."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129341098196992,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:14:09.967Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":354,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
