The project methodology consists of modified case studies.  A history of betrothal practices lays the groundwork for the study. Then seven cases are presented.  The first case is based on the writings of Martin Luther as he spoke to the culture of his day regarding marriage. The second case comes from the historic records of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland, Maryland in its registering of cohilationen - cohabiters. Five cases come from the ministry of the author in the early twenty-first century.  A public rite of betrothal is suggested as a way to strengthen engagement and provide a place for promises of faithfulness as a couple moves toward becoming married. In Seventh-day Adventist schools in Ontario, instruction in nutrition has been inconsistent historically.  To start addressing this inconsistency, this project pursued the development, implementation, and assessment of a nutrition curriculum unit for grades 9 to 12 in Seventh-day Adventist schools in Ontario.  It was developed and tested at Crawford Adventist Academy. This report establishes the rationale for alternatives, summarizes lectionary history, lists and evaluates alternates, and provides two of the author's own lectionaries, Route 66, which explores a non-RCL passage in each book of the Bible, and the Progressive Dinner Lectionary, which highlights table scenes in the Bible. Using focus groups and theological reflection, the project explores these connections while using Matthew's boat stories to illustrate characteristics of engaged ministry. The project tested that in making these connections, a congregation became more aware of the stories of the 'other' by connecting with the stories of people, enabling a willingness to become more involved with engaged ministry. Pastors need to integrate preaching into their own Christian discipleship in order for preaching to have an impact on their congregation. Through this project I propose that preaching can enhance the Christian discipleship of the pastor through the use of Incarnational Exegesis, EPIC, Authentic and Integrated Preaching. Pastors in two districts of the United Methodist Church were surveyed with follow-up interviews regarding their perceptions and practices around duties listed under 'order' in The United Methodist Book of Discipline. Comparisons and contrasts in thinking are identified between ordained and non-ordained clergy.
