The purpose of this project is to examine the gaps that exist in the church's support of children with special needs, and the impact that the church can have by serving and supporting this population.Traditional theological views on autism and similar conditions as well the universal church views on these conditions were examined. One objective of this project was to determine the effect these views have on the church's ability to serve and support these families, as well as to determine the amount of education necessary to provide the congregation, staff, and church leadership.Interviews were conducted with three different families of children with special needs who have made unsuccessful attempts to attend church services. Interviews of one social service organization and two churches already addressing these issues were also conducted.A Delphi survey with five special education experts who are also Christians was administered to glean strategies from the public-school system in teaching these children and supporting their families. Finally, compiling this information, a training course was developed in conjunction with a special education field leader that is designed to train church staff on how to work with and support special needs children and their families. Of specific interest, the group ended with a case study of scriptural approaches to the topic of homosexuality, seeking to understand how biblical interpretation affects daily life.  Below is an excerpt from the project report:     'Too often, clergy treat some information gathered in seminary as secret knowledge reserved for those deemed worthy enough to obtain it.  This must emerge from either too high an opinion of oneself, too low an opinion of congregants, or an addiction to the power of knowledge, but the end result has been a highly educated clergy speaking to relatively ignorant congregants.  This, of course, is no indictment of congregants, but rather a commentary on the ineffectiveness of clergy in appropriately and clearly providing people with the tools necessary to grow in their faith; to grow beyond the children’s sermon understanding of the Bible itself.  This project is one example of ways in which the clergy can engage with congregants on a more level playing field, trusting in their abilities and Spiritual maturity to guide the process of learning.  I have often heard it said that people enter seminary with strong faith, have their faith shaken, then emerge even stronger than when they entered. The objective of this project was to study the spiritual care of missionaries within the ministry context of Make Way Partners (MWP). The ministry context of MWP is to prevent and combat human trafficking. The context of this project was in the country of Sudan, in and near Darfur.In particular, the study addressed the possibility that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator might aid the leadership of MWP in predicting how missionaries might respond to stress in the field. Also, the project provided an opportunity to find a tool to help evaluate those missionaries who experience trauma due to the stress of the field. Insight has value onlywhen shared with others. A series of mnemonic devices found in Scripture are keys to maintaining a successful spiritual walk. These methods, proven throughout church history, require diligent retention and dispersal of information in the context of relational support. Ethnographic research in rural Ostfrisian communities indicates that when routinely practiced, these methods form broad spiritual patterns that reflect a deepening commitment to faith issues. This project reveals indicators that assist eidetic recall of spiritual events. The equipping model was a relevant and applicable model to meet the needs addressed by this project. The project director selected a team of leaders from Blackhawk Ministries to be trained in biblical discipleship skills. In preparation for that training the project director researched the field of discipleship, built an annotated bibliography, and developed a list of core competencies to be incorporated into a curriculum created to equip the selected leaders. Three specific goals guided the course of the project. Those goals were to (1) research the field of discipleship to identify core biblical discipleship competencies, (2) develop a curriculum to equip selected leaders, and (3) equip selected leaders with discipleship competencies. To ensure the meeting of these goals, the project director utilized curriculum design training, research, expert evaluators, rubrics, checklists, evaluation forms, and training sessions. The model for this project was the strategy model. The project director compared the demographics of the surrounding community to the demographics of the current leadership. The project director then researched vision-driven leadership strategies and provided a report on best practices. Third, the project director developed a vision-driven leadership strategy. Finally, the project director presented the strategy to deacons and church congregation for approval. The project sought to expand on the project by Pastor Michael Carney in 2015 which established the vision, mission, and core values of Calvary baptist church. the vision-driven leadership strategy served as a further implementation and development of the vision. To accomplish this purpose, the project director first conducted research in the area of adult discipleship. From his research, he identified four competencies that he determined are essential to effective disciple-making, namely gospel competency, head competency, heart competency, and hands competency. He then created a four-session curriculum based on the identified competencies in order to equip a small group of selected adults in the are of discipleship. He implemented the curriculum in four one-hour meetings over the course of four weeks. The project director enlisted the help of experts in the fields of disciple-making and curriculum design in order to ensure the quality and success of the project.
