A central principle that emerged was the need to shift our ministry perspective from doing things to people to doing things with people. The framework developed as a result of this research included eight key principle and four key components: Learn, Engage, Assess and Participate (LEAP).Hospitality is about welcoming others and making them feel at home. As someone who came to Canada over 30 years ago as an international student, I am sensitive to the needs of newcomers and refugees and the role that congregants could play in creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for them. I am also a firm believer that leadership is influence and that, through cross-cultural transformational leadership, we could create an environment where congregants would be motivated to welcome well. This research demonstrated that there is value in meeting the physical needs of newcomers and refugees. However, effective engagement with the migrants and displaced needs to go beyond food, housing, and education. The research highlighted the need to create spaces where they belong; where they could be anchored to; where they can recover the feeling of belonging that has been lost in migration.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Tyndale University
602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
94a54fc7-4854-4305-a03d-94577054ed42
354046e6-9e26-4959-9de9-8f0fa5f00572
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Increasing Emotional Intelligence in College Youth Ministry Students Preparing for Ministry
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
88ca07af-a5cb-474a-9ded-1d76c91d76ac
aedc9220-5bca-4c82-aec1-6c28f602d37b
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Leadership
Denver Seminary
Marshall Shelley Ph.D.
2022
D.Min. The project tested the hypothesis that a six-class emphasis on EI followed by four weeks of journaling exercises would increase EI levels in students preparing for ministry. In addition, the researcher established the link between wisdom in the book of Proverbs and its’ connection with EI. The researcher used an EI inventory, developed by Richard Boyatzis and Daniel Goleman (ESCI-U), designed for the university setting. Five categories are assessed by the ESCI-U: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Management, and Cognitive Competencies. There are twelve competencies organized into four clusters. Self-Awareness is the first cluster area, and the competency measured is Emotional Self-Awareness. The second cluster is Self-Management. In this cluster, there are four competencies: Achievement Orientation, Adaptability, Emotional Self-Control, and Positive Outlook. In the third cluster, Social Awareness, Empathy, and Organizational Awareness competencies are assessed. Finally, the fourth cluster area includes five competencies: Conflict Management, Coach and Mentor, Influence, Inspirational Leadership, and Teamwork. Following the presentation of the class material, the students engaged in four weeks of practicing The Daily Examen and journaling. After the four weeks of reflection, the students retook the EI inventory. The beginning and ending scores were compared. The project successfully improved EI levels because each student showed an increase in at least three of the twelve competencies, according to the ECSI-U inventory. Four students (67% of the class) showed an increase in at least half of the competencies, and two of the four increased in nine and ten of the competencies, respectively.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Denver Seminary
e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
a7fe70e3-b13f-4a90-a2e4-6c4e9cdc2b17
2761ea53-81f9-4609-8ddf-06d00cb5e8dd
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
A Didactic Approach to Spiritual Formation:Integrating Spiritual Practices to the Seminary Curriculum of the Diaspora of Chinese Students in Panama, Central America
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
bec2199f-4fb7-44cc-975b-8237ab6e4f5c
d48691f6-abdf-47c3-86e6-0055db134754
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Spiritual Formation
Tyndale University
Ouida Pihulyk D.Min.
2022
Panama
Dissertation
Text
Jacqueline Siu Yin Lam
Education--Curricula","Christianity and culture","Spiritual formation","Spiritual exercises","Prayer","Christian education
English
An awareness of God’s presence and a capacity to hear Him are two important elements to cultivate an intimate relationship with God for spiritual growth. The context for the research portfolio is seminary students and a small group of participants from the Iglesia Evangelica China De Panama from the Chinese diaspora in Panama, Central America. This portfolio offers my spiritual autobiography (Chapter II), which traces the influences of three different Christian spiritual traditions (Foster 1998) and my professional training in various fields that have helped me hear God and experience God’s presence in my daily life. A four-year academic model and curriculum (Chapter III) is created from the experience of my spiritual formation and implemented for the Alliance Bible School of Central and South America. Finally, a field research project (Chapter IV) is offered to examine the effectiveness of Lectio Divina to facilitate prayer encounters in a small group of students from the Iglesia Evangelica China De Panama. The results show positive responses by the participants in their ability to hear God and experience his presence. The need was based on concerns voiced by local church leaders. To fulfill this project, the Project Leader invited local pastors and church leaders from the EBA to participate in a six-session training. The Project Leader designed this training to give participants a biblical basis for service in the church by studying three different passages in Scripture. The writer provided participants with current resources utilized in churches to integrate service through spiritual gifts and ministry descriptions into local congregations. Throughout the training, he gave attendees opportunities to apply concepts discussed to their current ministry settings, allowing for practical application. The Project Leader administered a pre-and post-survey to each participant. He used the scores to determine the knowledge of each person before and after the training to determine if any increase in knowledge had occurred. The psychological impacts of abortion touch the local church as four out of ten women who have chosen abortion attend a church. Planned Parenthood [PP], the world’s largest abortion provider—reports 43 percent of all women will experience abortion at least once by forty-five years of age. The American Psychological Association [APA] denies the existence of psychological distress after abortion. The reader will soon discover the contradictory nature of the 2008 APA report and the stance of the Task Force on Mental Health and Abortion [TFMHA] whether or not abortion causes a negative psychological impact. Through specific research, the project will show that women who choose abortion and experience adverse effects need to be able to turn to the local church, and the local church needs to have trained leaders in restorative care ministries to help post-abortive women. This project will reveal the links between abortion and negative psychological impacts and possible long-term physical and emotional issues. Finally, this project will suggest a ministry training model for leaders in the church through biblical counseling.Chapter 1 shows the history of abortion and its impacts on women. After decades of longing to belong, God led me first to the halls of 12 Step programs, then to Seminary where I discovered, spiritual formation, Lectio Divina and spiritual direction. In contemplating a model of spiritual formation, the interface of these two experiences came to life in the linkage of the final three steps of A. A. which I characterize as Confess (Step 10), Abide (Step 11), and Give (Step 12).The research observed the spiritual maturation of lay people at various stages of their journey of becoming more like Christ. The project was designed to build a community of trust within a small group who met for seven weeks to practice Lectio Divina. I used the narrative inquiry research method with favorable results. Some participants self-identified both as having a deeper sense of the presence of God and experiencing a change in their approach to daily life while others either experienced movement in one of the dimensions or no movement at all. My conclusion is that, for some, the practice of Lectio Divina can effectuate deeper spiritual formation.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Tyndale University
602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
472080fc-9aeb-4966-b432-e56c1ff77a1c
d473b0f0-3303-441a-83fc-0922709e1a35
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Equipping Leaders at Hope Fellowship Church in Frisco, Texas, to Assess and Facilitate Ongoing Spiritual Development
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
f4d1aa02-8908-4a0e-abbb-0fc795b963e4
77dc89b8-d3b1-47a4-9be5-47ea0c5ff993
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Christian Formation and Discipleship
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
Coleman Ford Ph.D.
2022
United States
D.Min. Chapter 1 introduces the study and includes a thesis statement and an examination of the biographical factors, which influenced Scarborough’s life. This chapter includes Scarborough’s family background, call to ministry, education, pastoral experience, summary, and timeline. Chapter 2 examines Scarborough’s influence as general director of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Seventy-Five Million Campaign, which was a program intended to raise 75 million dollars over a five-year period from 1919-1924, to help finance Baptist efforts in missions, education, and other benevolent work. This chapter presents his influence in development and implementation of a strategy to execute the campaign. Chapter 3 examines Scarborough’s influence as a committee member of the Future Program Commission, which recommended adopting the Southern Baptist Convention’s Cooperative Program [CP] in 1925. This chapter presents his influence related to the theological convictions he maintained in the area of cooperation. Chapter 4 examines Scarborough’s influence as a member of the Baptist Faith & Message committee, which framed the first Southern Baptist convention-wide confession, entitled the Baptist Faith & Message in 1925. Prior to the 1925 confession, they used the New Hampshire Confession of Faith (1833) and the Abstract of Principles (1858). Chapter 5 provides a conclusion for the entire dissertation and centers on one of the most important concepts espoused by Scarborough during his lifetime. The concept of cooperation was redefined by Scarborough in a way for Southern Baptists that still marks a distinguishing feature of the denomination today. This chapter solidifies the thesis of the dissertation by an examination of how Scarborough utilized his influence to engineer a new direction for Southern Baptist through his efforts on the Seventy-Five Million Campaign, formation of the Cooperative Program and the Baptist Faith & Message.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
b0c19fcc-e5e0-418d-b75e-64caf13ed6f6
376e395c-24c8-4395-965c-04e0d8e4064a
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
The Art of Seamless Pastoral Transition: A Guide For Church Leaders
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
a27df118-1891-4b83-9636-122fec0d3eda
666b0014-fbb2-43ef-afda-47190555c61e
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Parish Focus: Risking Faithfully
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary
Kenneth Woo Ph.D.","Jerome Creach Ph.D.
2022
United States
D.Min.
