Through my service at Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett, North Carolina, the staff and leaders had noticed an increasing need for help and accountability from Scripture. The way Beulah has chosen to view biblical counseling is an extension of discipleship; the leadership of Beulah feels this is one way to fulfill the Great Commission. The purpose of this project was to effectively equip lay leaders at Beulah Baptist Church with foundational biblical \r\ncounseling competencies. The project model I chose was the equipping model.\r\n\r\nDuring this project, I analyzed and researched various foundational biblical \r\ncounseling competencies to determine their core components. After discovering these foundational competencies, I wrote a curriculum to be taught in a three-day workshop format. I held a three-day workshop to equip these lay leaders. The aim was to understand our limits and teach lay leaders when there is an issue that exceeds their knowledge base. Once this has been established, we will refer you to a licensed Christian counseling center in our area. The project arises from the ministry challenges that many Chinese diaspora churches effectively provide theological teaching and communal belonging but often struggle to cultivate believers who embody a reproducible missional identity in everyday life. The project therefore investigates whether Christian coaching can support believers in integrating faith, identity, and mission within their daily contexts.\r\n\r\nGrounded in practical theology and missional discipleship theory, the research employed a participatory action research design and a mixed-methods approach. Six participants from a Chinese-background congregation in Melbourne participated in a three-week intervention consisting of six group Christian coaching sessions. A single-group pre- and post-test design measured perceived changes across three dimensions of missional discipleship: self-awareness in Christ, relational reproducing of discipleship, and radical devotion expressed through costly obedience. Quantitative self-awareness data were complemented by qualitative reflections and written semi-structured exit interviews.\r\n\r\nFindings indicate directional growth across all three dimensions of missional discipleship. Participants reported increased awareness of their identity as “beloved and send” in Christ, a reframing of disciple-making as relational and assessable within everyday relationships, and greater openness to faithful obedience within their cultural and vocational realities. Qualitative data further revealed how these shifts were experienced through relational engagement, vocational discernment, and reflection on cultural barriers to costly obedience.\r\nWhile limited by its small sample size and exploratory design the project suggests that short-term group Christian coaching can function as a formative environment that encourages believers to reinterpret their everyday lives as participation in God’s mission. The project contributes to practical theology by proposing Christian coaching as a contextually responsive approach to cultivating missional discipleship within Chinese Australian diaspora church contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866642903595483136,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T19:29:55.060Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-30T19:18:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T19:18:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e6fb058a-5f5b-4b10-bf24-595b04a9f666","accessControl_ssim":["357ddc2e-4015-4061-a9b5-8665115a59d9"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Shepherd the Shepherds: Evaluating the Pastoral Residency of Wellspring Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-30T19:18:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T19:18:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e413ad8a-92de-414e-8392-eb35c58d0e2e"],"hasLease_ssim":["e86dc534-bec8-406b-9c0c-86cc8214ad03"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry "],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Combining cognitive understanding and practical application, the course is intended to foster missional awareness and cross-cultural competence among first-generation Chinese diaspora Christians. Crucially, the study addresses a common issue in Chinese churches: missions are supported in theory but rarely practiced locally. Using a qualitative methodology, semi-structured interviews were conducted with pastors and members from three Mandarin-speaking congregations at eighteen, nine, and six months after course completion. The findings showed that the course significantly enhanced participants’\r\nmissional awareness, spiritual transformation, evangelistic involvement, intercessory prayer, and sensitivity toward non-Christians. Many participants also developed a growing burden for the unsaved and became more willing to participate in local outreach activities. However, sustaining these practices depended largely on ongoing pastoral leadership, church support, and continuous ministry opportunities. The study further revealed that the course was less effective at encouraging cross-cultural evangelism due to barriers such as limited confidence in English-language gospel communication, workplace and social constraints, and the Chinese cultural concept of face (mianzi). The study concludes that while mission education can effectively cultivate internal\r\ntransformation and localized missional practice, future curriculum design should more intentionally address linguistic and cultural barriers in order to better equip first-generation Chinese diaspora Christians for sustained cross-cultural engagement."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866641551185149952,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T19:08:25.301Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-30T18:00:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T18:00:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6cd0e97d-c37b-4793-9874-86e85170f8dc","accessControl_ssim":["70ff1dd4-b13d-4582-be30-39b6f4389426"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Challenges in Church Planting and Growth Faced by Marshallese Assemblies of God Pastors Among the Diaspora in the United States: Four Case Studies"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-30T18:00:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T18:00:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["89ddc21d-0eac-400a-8c58-635ded9eae4d"],"hasLease_ssim":["437c9caf-cd06-4a96-ab91-0f917a277856"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry "],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. As Marshallese people migrate to the United States there are both common and unique challenges facing them, particularly Marshallese pastors as they attempt to plant churches, disciple those who have chosen to follow Jesus, and evangelize their people. The project’s focus is to analyze these challenges from the perspective of multiple disciplines. There was analysis of the biblical, theological, pastoral and ecclesiological responses of the past and possible application for their specific challenges. The need for a multidisciplinary approach is necessary for the qualitative research conducted through four case studies, two new follow-up interviews, and eighteen new pastoral interviews conducted in 2026 with the goal of evaluating what these pastors have experienced and how they are doing now. The focus is on how these pastors interpret their experiences, how they plant new congregations, deal with different cultures, and attribute meaning to their experiences. The grounded theory approach is used to gather qualitative data to build a substantive theory about the phenomenon underlying these pastoral challenges. The conclusion of the project summarizes the long-term denominational results of the current leadership model and practices and examines how Marshallese Assemblies of God pastors in the United States might more effectively and constructively address their ministerial challenges. What options are currently available to them individually and to the churches they pastor? The findings from this project offer insights to all Marshallese pastors called to minister in the United States--regardless of denomination--and provide key perspectives for those called to come alongside the Marshallese people as they migrate and seek to fulfill the Great Commission through equipping and supporting in the midst of their ministries. \r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866637277340368896,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T18:00:29.446Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"107f0ac4-c393-4823-b371-873b19750710","accessControl_ssim":["af0cb6b4-b975-4edc-85af-a5e498c57307"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Reformissional Discipleship: A Strategy for Renewing the Discipleship Effort in an Orthodox Presbyterian Congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c8199f3e-0160-4001-8e74-0172fb382291"],"hasLease_ssim":["370c812d-8127-47f5-85cf-65511dfa4ed6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry "],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Although the congregation verbally affirms Reformed preaching, worship, and government, the study found that discipleship is often understood and practiced in broadly evangelical rather than distinctly Presbyterian and Reformed categories, and many participants\r\ndemonstrated limited ability to articulate core Presbyterian and Reformed convictions. As a result, confessional identity, theological continuity, and intentionally Reformed disciple formation have become less clearly articulated and consistently practiced in the congregation. The project develops a theological and theoretical framework through an examination of Reformed discipleship, missional discipleship, and their integration into a proposed model\r\ntermed Reformissional Discipleship. Reformissional Discipleship is defined as a confessionally grounded approach to disciple-making that maintains the primacy of covenant theology, worship, ecclesiology, and the ordinary means of grace while fostering faithful participation in the missio Dei through the life and ministry of covenant community. Using a mixed-method action research design, the study employed a congregational survey, a focus group with the Committee on Edification, and semi-structured interviews with members and church leaders. Findings revealed strong appreciation for preaching, worship, and\r\nrelational fellowship, but also limited shared understanding of discipleship and a lack of intentional structures for disciple-making. In response, this project proposes a strategic plan for discipleship renewal centered on confessional formation, relational discipling structures, leadership development, and greater integration of discipleship into the ordinary life of the\r\nchurch."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866636029477257216,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T17:40:39.390Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:34:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:34:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fc00cc6d-a990-4e79-a902-1fb991e5adce","accessControl_ssim":["e715e54c-0116-4743-a025-0d76b78cc67e"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Hunting the Woolly Mammoth: A Manual Toolbox for Pastors in the Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan, Metropolitan Area for Pastoral Care for Men"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:34:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:34:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1e4da6a5-b1de-4e31-84ea-0b6fc80a3785"],"hasLease_ssim":["9e56fd32-23f4-4f1a-a90a-d3e589fe8686"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry "],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. A six-week sermon series titled You Were Blessed to BLESS served as the central intervention, focusing on five relational outreach practices. Data were collected through pre- and post-series surveys measuring beliefs, motivations, and behaviors, followed by ten semi-structured interviews that explored how\r\nparticipants interpreted and practiced these changes within their everyday relationships. The findings demonstrate that preaching corresponded with measurable motivational shifts and emerging missional activation. Participants reported increased awareness of everyday relationships as opportunities for spiritual influence, a strengthened sense of personal responsibility for outreach, and a notable rise in confidence initiating spiritual conversations. These internal shifts corresponded with observable engagement, particularly in practices of prayer and service, while other practices developed more incrementally. Participants consistently described moving from passive agreement to intentional participation, engaging others through relational, everyday interactions rather than programmatic efforts. The study concludes that sustained, memorable, and practice-oriented preaching can cultivate progressive engagement in God's mission by aligning belief, motivation, and action. Rather than producing immediate or dramatic transformation, missional preaching forms believers over time who increasingly participate in God's redemptive work through the ordinary relationships of daily life."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866634789395628032,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T17:20:56.757Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f5004556-fe95-4bfc-ba8c-2d8cc76a9332","accessControl_ssim":["04140d7a-963c-449e-9345-3b12102e93f4"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Fostering Intercongregational Unity in a Chinese Immigrant Church Through Collaborative Missional Action"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:29:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e9f78494-6ea1-48f3-9624-bb8434e74e1b"],"hasLease_ssim":["d758b32d-76de-4c82-bafd-a5b726913f39"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The church consists of three distinct \r\ncongregations—Cantonese, Mandarin, and English—each shaped by unique cultural, linguistic, and generational identities. Although doctrinally unified, these congregations have historically functioned in parallel, reflecting relational fragmentation common in diaspora church contexts. Using a qualitative intervention design, the project examined the impact of a jointly organized Chinese New Year outreach initiative. Data were collected through pre-event focus groups, participant observation, and post-event focus groups. The findings indicate that language and leadership culture serve as primary boundary markers; however, participation in shared mission significantly reduced relational distance and increased mutual trust. The outreach functioned as a Third Space, temporarily flattening hierarchical and generational divides and fostering practical interdependence. Theologically interpreted through Ephesians 2, 1 Corinthians 12, Acts 2, and diaspora missiology, the study argues that unity in immigrant churches is sustained not through structural proximity but through outward-facing participation in the Missio Dei. Sustainable unity requires adaptive leadership, intercultural competence, structural integration, and repeated shared mission. This research demonstrates that linguistic diversity can become a missional asset when reoriented around shared vocation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866556061035528192,"timestamp":"2026-05-29T20:29:35.542Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
