The thesis is that there is a need for greater cooperation between the medical community and the church.  Screening and education performed in church stetting would be a help to both parishioners and doctors.  Questionnaires used revealed interest among clients and volunteers.  On that basis, a clinic was begun and observed for a period of two months.  The project demonstrated that health-related screening and education was of benefit to both medical and church communities. The project sought to gain information by giving a force field analysis survey to ten Assembly of God churches.  From their response to the survey relevant curricula could be developed to prepare people for urban ministry.  The project demonstrated favorable results as the survey was given successfully. The theological section examines the background of Proverbs and compares it with other wisdom literature of the ancient world. Included is a segment on the unique literary genre of Proverbs. The structure of the book and the theology of wisdom is also analyzed in this chapter. The theoretical chapter investigates the hermeneutical principles particular to Proverbs. Determining paragraphs, using rhetorical analysis, and patterns in wisdom literature is thoroughly discussed. Filtering the selected text through six interpretive principles is key to this section. The chapter concludes by developing a framework for constructing expository sermons. The culmination of theological and theoretical sections is an actual course designed to teach expository preaching from Proverbs. It is intended as a college or seminary elective homiletics course. Included with the lesson plans are 10 sermons on Proverbs for the purpose of classroom instruction and personal study. The main parts of the funeral event such as the service, wake, the committal service, and the repast, are examined as powerful tools of evangelism. In addition, the importance of preaching, singing, and praying during the funeral event have been explored as additional spiritual tools for evangelism. The role of the pastor and laity are explored as care givers offering an open door of opportunity for being evangelists. The resource includes a video, 'Through the Pane,' and a study guide, which offers a process for viewing this artistic rendering of transformation.  The process initiated by the study guide was critiqued and the data from the respondents were analysed through qualitative research methodology.  Shortcomings within the initial study guide were identified and a revised study guide is included in the dissertation. The response to the problems will be practical application of the biblical principles of Christian social involvement. Specifically, an attempt will be made to lead an urban church in decline to become revitalized and to grow spiritually and numerically by developing and implementing an after-school ministry program. This program will address the spiritual, emotional, educational, and physical needs of elementary aged children in the Riverside area of Fort Worth, Texas. The children will be recruited from Oakhurst Elementary School in cooperation with the principal and the administration. A group of approximately twelve people will be led through an awareness and training program to help them see the need for and to equip them for a ministry of this kind.
