The author examined the literature on shamanism and studied the theological literature on contextualization. A twelve-item pencil-and-paper test for lay response was tested at seven churches to measure how effectively the full gospel was being proclaimed and received in worship. Using the 'shared praxis approach' to religious education developed by Thomas Groome, the design enables participants to examine a spectrum of abortion perspectives, to compare their personal perspectives with this spectrum, and to grow in understanding of the biblical and theological themes of each.  The design was field-tested in a number of Presbyterian churches as a short-term (four one and a half hour sessions) adult education course.  The author trained volunteer leaders to manage the educational process.  A detailed course outline is included in the dissertation. Though consensus about abortion may never occur, abortion education using a 'shared praxis' approach helps create new levels of awareness and understanding. Churches and ministers, ignorant and inexperienced in the mission to the handicapped, need practical guidance.  But, first of all, Christians must see the disabled as persons of dignity and individual worth, as they have been created in the image of God.  The churches should recognize the problems of the disabled and take leadership in eliminating the prejudices and unfairnesses prevailing in society.  The subject of this paper was limited to mentally retarded children. Part 1 presents the general understanding of mentally retarded children; part 2 explores the biblical resources related to the education for mentally retarded children, the development of their spiritual characters and the church's sharing with them.  In part 3 these investigations are incorporated into a practical program of church education. The program consisted of eight two-hour sessions, meeting one evening each week.  The author believed that by exposing women to women in the Scriptures through the lens of the work of women scholars, the women's self-esteem would be enhanced. The Hudson Index of Self-Esteem was the measure of the women's esteem.  A baseline test was given followed by the test taken at the end of each session. This was a cooperative effort in attempt to locate any particular people groups not currently reached by the participating congregations. Through official census material accessed by computer and survey questionnaires of church households vital demographic variables or 'factors that divide' were examined in both the community and the congregations. Each congregation was able to examine their own uniqueness in comparison to the other congregations and in comparison to the community profile. The spiritual development of individual members of a rural Presbyterian congregation and the spiritual enrichment of the community of faith at large, as observed by the pastor, is explored utilizing the heuristic model of an apple orchard.  The comparison of the nurture of trees and enrichment of individuals and congregation employs the praxis circle of practical theology as delineated by James Poling and Donald Miller. In doing so the praxis circle begins with the experience of the individuals, describes and evaluates the two opposing theologies within the congregation, seeks to find correlation of creation-centered theology and Reformed theology in secular disciplines, ecclesiastical mandates, and denominational documents, which gives rise to new guidelines and practices for the faith community and its members. Contextual and institutional factors are compared in the two groups of churches.  Chi-square and t-tests suggest twenty-two significant differences between growing and declining churches.
