Three focus groups helped understanding of issues, fashioning of goals, and crafting of the 'faith and reading survey.'  An nth name selection from a church list in a 4,000 sample and 1,021 useable responses.  The survey measured demographics, five behavioral and attitudinal areas of reading, and horizontal and vertical faith levels, making it possible to relate faith level development to religious readership. While many of the existing models of intervention are useful and worthwhile, this thesis will suggest that certain key ingredients are sometimes avoided or neglected in an attempt to move quickly toward a satisfactory resolution of a problem. Effective problem solving, especially when dealing with a difficult person, cannot always be reduced to a simple step-by-step approach.  The purpose of this thesis will be to explore and present another option for dealing with the presence of a difficult person that is both biblical and practical. This project of ten weekly two-hour small group learning experiences employed pretest and both immediate and delayed posttest evaluations of participants' understanding.  While not statistically confirmed because of the limited number of participants, the findings point clearly to laypersons' ability to grasp comprehensively sanctification's meaning. Data for the final evaluation were gathered from a pre- and post-conflict mode test and 'describe yourself' paragraph. The results were statistically compiled. The nature of the research was both literary and social, as the sources of Baptist spirituality were traced through church history and the emerging principles were applied within the program of a local church. This work was done for the sole purpose of inspiring clergy and laity to honor the mandate of our Lord (Matthew 28:19-20) to enter the field of evangelism.  The method of study and research was to investigate the norms of evangelism: biblical, theological and empirical perspectives.  After research we practiced evangelism.  The various approaches taken gave opportunities for ministry beyond expectations.  The results were astronomical. It asked the question: how do clergy determine the calling of God as it relates to the decision to move to another church?  In order to develop the database necessary to answer this question, a survey was developed that elicited responses from a random sample of Baptist General Conference pastoral staff.
