The premise applied was that a congregation needs to have opportunity to interact with the creation of its own unique mission statement to ensure the validity and implementation of its mission statement.  The developmental components included an initial all-church survey, an advisory council of key leadership representatives, an adult Sunday Bible school curriculum, a sermon series, deacon home meetings, congregational meetings, a subsequent all-church survey and a short quiz to test congregational ability to articulate the summary slogan of the church's mission statement. They were asked what they found to be difficult and enriching during internship. Data gained through questionnaires, journal exercises, and interviews provided a narrative and anecdotal commentary of their experiences.  Mutual accountability, ethical responsibility, and the nature of the intern-supervisor relationship surfaced as areas of concern. The project observed the effects of a shared stewardship of lay and professional preachers in one rural Baptist congregation.  The professional preacher developed a ten-week curriculum for the training of lay preachers who then participated in the pulpit ministry of the congregation.  The effects of that shared stewardship on themselves, the professional preacher and the congregation were observed through the use of personal journals, surveys and interviews.
