This project was designed and implemented to test the applicability of this method of lay involvement in ministry in a different context--the USA.  The results of this project obtained through questionnaire and personal interviews and supported by actual records demonstrated the applicability of this model in the USA. For six consecutive Sundays at the Bolling Air Force Base Chapel Center, the usual amount of lay leadership was significantly increased by advanced preparation and enlisting volunteers from the congregation. Surveys taken before and after the experimental Sundays indicated the congregation liked the additional lay leadership, but not more than about ten minutes total; any more would make the service too long. Descriptive survey methodology and simple statistical evaluations were used with an experimental group. In developing the statement, central consideration was given to biblical tradition, followed by covenant community, holistic health ministry and health care, and the composite of research and data.  Directors of nine hospital-based pastoral counseling centers provided the data. A diagnosis of the problem was given from psychological, emotional, theological, and biblical perspectives.  A theology and methodology was presented showing why that issue was a focus for an act of ministry.  A sermon series was presented dealing with the themes of abandonment, lostness, and hope.  Evaluation was done by a peer group using written-response questionnaires and by the chapel community using scale-type questionnaires.
