The historical roots of prayer through African traditional religions and the Bible were examined.  The theological and functional disciplines of prayer were integrated through a field study of non-academic devotional literature.  A review of denominational hymnals of National Baptist, African Methodist Episcopal and Church of God in Christ was included.  Finally, prayers from literature and the arts, mass meetings, music, and devotions/worship experiences were cited. Two main elements directed this search: four special 'period' worship services, and an 'experimental' service (focused on a potential future worship style). The thesis provides a statistical overview of the changing composition of the Australian population and an historical reflection on missionary efforts over the past two hundred years among the indigenous population. The theological underpinning for any mission activity is explored along with the theological blockages to mission endeavor. The design encouraged laity to reflect mutually on Christian faith and the workplace, develop a theology and strategy, and begin implementation.  A lay task force developed the theology and strategy.  Implementation began with a fourteen-week seminar encouraging increased awareness and appreciation for personality and gifts as part of one's calling.  The MBTI helped people discover their personality gifts.
