Spiritual formation requires both an intentional environment and a place in the seminary curriculum.  The methodology entailed creating a dialogue between the seminarians' experiences in the seminary community, the Christian tradition, and a cultural resource, self psychology, to propose a concrete pastoral action. Principles of a feminist theory and theology of leadership are applied to case studies of women currently ministering in solo pastor, senior pastor and co-pastor positions. Yet the church has within its tradition the cycle of the liturgical year, a resource of immeasurable power in assisting persons of faith build, shape and strengthen their identity as disciples of Jesus Christ. Meaningful, well thought-out liturgical events are extremely effective in developing Christian identity, an identity that can prevail against the other words and other stories that would coopt and destroy the unique identity of the church. Significant research which provided the foundation for the reorganization process included: a demographic analysis of Hebron; the composition of a constitution and by-laws; and an analysis of state and federal welfare programs available to residents of eastern Connecticut. Research for the project was completed through interviews of parish members, of area Lutheran clergy and of pastors who had served Christ the King congregation and their family members.
