The monolithic culture is composed of historic residents, while the pluralistic culture pertains to those new in the community. Two outreach services have been developed to penetrate these cultures. The second chapter surveys the writings of three influential schools of thought in discipleship and how they interplayed with the author's views on discipleship. It also explains some historical factors which have affected the church's disciple making ministry. The third chapter records the steps taken to improve the church's ability to make disciples. These steps cover many areas: small group ministries, organizational documents 9such as the constitution and by-laws), adult education ministries, leadership development structures, and staffing procedures. It also discloses that it is better to develop a program based on the specific culture in which the church is located. Options are limited to the strategies suggested by Lyle Schaller in his book, 21 Bridges to the 21st Century. The situation is an inner city, intergenerational congregation.  The complication is in the question, 'Is there a design or style of preaching that reaches all generations and ultimately strengthens the community?'  The resolution is in the thesis statement:  the celebrative design in preaching is a vehicle that will allow the preacher the opportunity to preach to all five geenrations.
