My Leadership Narrative traces my progression from a challenging polygamous upbringing to pastoral ministry, and from secular leadership in central banking to theological training. This illustrates the transformative power of resilience, faith, and divine intervention. My DMin research project builds on these experiences, my Philosophy of Leadership, and my Context Exegesis. It combines classroom training with practical fieldwork to strengthen the leadership skills, character, and intimacy with God of church planters in the Foursquare Gospel Church of Asokoro, Abuja, Nigeria. Fifteen participants were mentored so they could develop Servant Leadership and Adaptive Leadership skills, which aligned with Jesus’ approach to leadership. A digital questionnaire, the Conceptualizing Leadership Questionnaire (CLQ), and the Spiritual Assessment Inventory (SAI) were used before and after the training to evaluate the participants’ growth in these areas. Before training, 8 participants reported gradual spiritual growth, and 7 indicated substantial growth. After the training, 12 reported substantial spiritual development. The findings affirmed that combining fieldwork with classroom instruction enhanced leadership capacity, personal character, and intimacy with God, shaping both who the leader becomes and what the leader does.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["wurantivincent@mytyndale.ca"],"_version_":1845266553634816000,"timestamp":"2025-10-06T20:41:59.125Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-10-01T14:31:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-10-01T14:31:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1064ebc1-e299-4580-99e7-cf02b6b789d5","accessControl_ssim":["1b7a7af0-2203-4a80-b4b1-e50bfb64d6fa"],"depositor_ssim":["library@lancasterseminary.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["library@lancasterseminary.edu"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral Care of Children in Crisis"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-10-01T14:31:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-10-01T14:31:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5b3543e2-0b1b-4107-a163-eebdfbbdb2ca"],"hasLease_ssim":["aee6b151-354d-4290-8447-ff4711fcbcea"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1975"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The crisis situations of grief, divorce, and hospitalization illustrate situations in which the pastor may use the insights of child developmental theory and child counseling techniques in the pastoral care of children. It is hoped that this will lead to an increase in confidence in discussing the matter with those who come from denominational backgrounds which find this confessional Lutheran practice unpalatable. To this end, a study and accompanying materials will be prepared from a biblical and historical analysis of the doctrine to strengthen the resolve and comfort of those who attend the study in discussing and, if necessary, winsomely defending this teaching to their friends and family who disagree with it. Success in this matter will be measured by a combination of surveys and personal interviews with congregation members and study participants, particularly to see if the use of case studies was effective in the teaching of this doctrine. Drawing upon interdisciplinary research in sociology, psychology, and trauma studies, alongside a re-examination of Catholic theological foundations on human dignity and marital equality, this work proposes and evaluates a Prophetic Pastoral Narrative Preaching Model. Can the comic spirit enliven preaching in these contexts? This is not just a theoretical question but a practical and pastoral one. A praxis for preaching with the comic spirit may be characterized by the intentional use of humor, levity, wit, and comedy to reveal theological insights. Sermons in LGBTQ+ affirming congregations can be more effective by utilizing expressions of the comic spirit that are informed by the respective contexts, with special interest given to the intersectional identities and lived experiences of queer listeners. The author, an openly queer ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, engages this topic as a self-examination of praxis and centers his research primarily within three Houston congregations. Before presenting findings, literary reviews include a queering of cishet scholarship in comic homiletics and an examination of queer theologians as cognate to further inform the contextualized praxis. Where cishet homileticians have studied stand-up comedians, the author bridges the queer research gap by exploring drag performers as muse. A four-part research approach—including surveys, focus groups, field observations, and interviews—serves to inform the developing praxis and prove the thesis: the comic spirit can enliven and enhance preaching in LGBTQ+ affirming contexts. Three homiletical strategies for a queer-informed comic spirit emerge from the project: (1) disarming tension to engage the listener, (2) fostering congregational connection, and (3) balancing depth and levity. Each of these strategies serve to impact the listener through queer-affirming sermons that inspire theological insights."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/bc8257c6-8b09-484e-a9a5-eca5a518cba7?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["bc8257c6-8b09-484e-a9a5-eca5a518cba7"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["DMin Papers"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5fee7d74-6f58-4c88-a3b1-860b847dd7c2"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["bc8257c6-8b09-484e-a9a5-eca5a518cba7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836659645558554624,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T20:38:51.949Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:06:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:06:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d78322ee-6aff-4d57-8da1-4d81bedfc83e","accessControl_ssim":["c361f64e-9469-490f-80b0-a9c285460bb4"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["4744fcb6-99b2-4a56-8068-d0b7cde977b5"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["4744fcb6-99b2-4a56-8068-d0b7cde977b5"],"depositor_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Embodied Disruption"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:06:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:06:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ddf3c0fc-a85d-4493-971a-bfa9935654b3"],"hasLease_ssim":["3f26c11b-62eb-4d64-b5f9-2f6cf4e5c463"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Religious Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kasperson, Casey"],"keyword_tesim":["Embodied epistemology"],"subject_tesim":["Authenticity (Philosophy)","Religions--Relations","Knowledge, Theory of","Critical thinking"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis offers an interreligious cultural analysis of faith, not as a comparative study between traditions, but as an inquiry rooted in embodied epistemology. It argues that what is often called “truth” is merely faith that has been absolutized and idolized, undermining critical reflection. As both argument and example, this thesis introduces Embodied Disruption as a new method of research—one that refuses objectivity and instead centers lived experience, contextuality, and the disruptive impact of authenticity on dominant systems of meaning."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/4744fcb6-99b2-4a56-8068-d0b7cde977b5?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["4744fcb6-99b2-4a56-8068-d0b7cde977b5"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["4744fcb6-99b2-4a56-8068-d0b7cde977b5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836650062732591104,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T18:06:33.053Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-07-02T21:59:58Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-02T22:00:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"03526f58-c650-4af6-9d5e-1e33f01cbb91","accessControl_ssim":["a1455649-0c2b-48a0-8172-3fc620836f80"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["37b1ba41-c0ea-45c6-9c11-b6f0552b4f88"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["37b1ba41-c0ea-45c6-9c11-b6f0552b4f88"],"depositor_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Cultivating the soul: incorporating spiritual development in modern day Islamic schools inspired by the works of classical scholarship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-07-02T21:59:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-02T21:59:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["56d1a8a6-5573-403f-ad04-c5840d77ccd3"],"hasLease_ssim":["51adb1fa-3d33-476b-aaca-f4ce99d1f146"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Islamic Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"department_tesim":["Bayan Islamic Graduate School"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Shaw, Sabriyya"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual direction--Islam","Islamic education","Islamic education--Philosophy","Spirituality--youth","Spirituality--Islam","Islamic schools"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis explores the importance of spiritual development in the Islamic tradition and strategies to implement spiritual development in today’s Islamic schools in the United States. Black women are the most abused group of people on social media today with violence specifically against Black women, Black Muslim women and Black trans women at an all-time high. Violence against these Black women is as a result of America’s desire to still define these persons as stereotypical Jezebels, Mammies and Sapphires, continuing what Dr. Emilie Townes calls “the cultural production of evil” through social media now. My primarily conversation partner, Dr. Na’im Akbar, suggests celebration is one strategy that breaks the chains of psychological slavery which negatively impacts African American people. With Dr. Akbar’s theory of celebration in mind, this paper examines how the act of celebration can be utilized as a spiritual care practice on social media today to care for Black women, Black Muslim women and Black trans women who experience violence on social media. Celebrating these Black women specifically restores dignity. Centering the Hadith of Slander (\"al-Ifk\") as a theological microcosm, it reimagines divine attributes as sources of embodied identity, care, and praxis.
