However, little research has examined senior pastors' experiences within and aspirations for CPNs. This study explored how senior pastors engage with CPNs. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six senior pastors in the Presbyterian Church in America who have been actively involved in the Southwest Church Planting Network for over a decade. Four research questions guided this research: (1) What benefits do senior pastors experience when they engage with church-planting networks? (2) What challenges do senior pastors face when they engage with church-planting networks? (3) How do senior pastors navigate the challenges they face when they engage with church-planting networks? (4) What are senior pastors’ hopes for engagement with church-planting networks? The literature review examined lessons from the Book of Acts for contemporary CPN development, and research on network dynamics and organizational hierarchies. The key benefits identified included camaraderie, compelling vision, and access to funding. Primary challenges included diminished relational connections over time, loss of aspirational leadership, and complacency. Pastors navigated challenges through singular loyalty to the CPN. Hopes for the future centered around prayer, compelling rationale for planting, unified philosophy, clear metrics, new models, sustainable funding, dedicated leadership, training and coaching. These findings provide valuable insights for CPN leaders seeking to enhance senior pastor involvement. To address these challenges, eleven practical recommendations are offered, focusing on network partnership, collaboration and missional engagement."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2024/Altman_Blake_DMin_2024.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1829524508851044352,"timestamp":"2025-04-16T02:28:55.327Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-15T03:44:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T16:17:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fb1948f7-574c-4db3-a8c6-0cb94dab14a2","accessControl_ssim":["324ac2f7-c9a9-44d0-a639-04e6e5cc9ca4"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["fbeeaeaf-afb4-4acd-92bf-639bf99794b9"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["fbeeaeaf-afb4-4acd-92bf-639bf99794b9"],"depositor_ssim":["sophia.starner@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["sophia.starner@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["A Seat at the Table: Navigating Hospitality in Nuanced Christian Spaces"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-15T03:44:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T16:17:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a4330c54-30af-4cb9-85a3-bad6f711995f"],"hasLease_ssim":["90885ca2-1ae5-4294-8a0f-7abf2f8a36d5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["0"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["0"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Religious Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Starner, Sophia"],"keyword_tesim":["Doctrine","LGBTQ+","Church","Eucharist","Derrida","Hospitality","Nuance","Queer","The Last Supper","Ecclessiology"],"subject_tesim":["Philosophy of religion","Hospitality--Religious aspects","Congregations--Internal conflict"],"abstract_tesim":["Hospitality, a longtime practice and core value within the Christian tradition, currently faces challenges in being fully embraced and embodied in the context of growing nuance and tensions within evolving Christian doctrine and communities. Drawing on the work of 20th century philosopher Jacques Derrida and the biblical retellings of the Lord’s Supper, this thesis argues for the pressing need to reassess and reimagine the transformative power and undeniable call of hospitality for Christian communities. By cultivating a deeper understanding and developing a framework for more conversation around how hospitality ought to be lived out in Christian communities, there is hope for the creation of a collective pursuit of justice, love, and holiness. Through this exploration, it becomes evident that hospitality beckons Christians to answer the powerful call of Christlikeness by radically caring for and making room for those historically categorized as “the Other.” This recognition invites Christian communities to take the first step by engaging in open dialogue, reexamine past practices, and find new ways to better embrace hospitality in their specific context. Despite Fatima’s widely revered status, her life and contributions have often been overshadowed or misinterpreted, both by Western Orientalist scholarship and through the cultural practices of some Muslim societies. Through a detailed exploration of Fatima’s spiritual, social, and familial roles, this study reveals her as a powerful exemplar of female leadership, resilience, and piety. It addresses how Fatima’s life reshapes paradigms related to gender dynamics, social class, lineage, and race, offering a compelling model of female agency rooted in Islamic values. By highlighting Fatima’s education, public service, advocacy, and unwavering moral stance, the research demonstrates her enduring influence as a guiding figure for Muslim women today. This paper uses Muñoz’s theory, in conjunction with the work of historians of evangelicalism and theorist Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, to demonstrate how the Evangelical Right is able to engage with the theological call to be “in the world, but not of the world” by perceiving itself as a marginalized subculture. The Evangelical Right developed in the late 1970s as evangelicals in the United States began to shift from a philosophy of fundamentalist separatism towards explicitly political activism by disidentifying with mainstream culture, working to engage with it and reform it for their own purposes. In making the parallels between Muñoz’s disidentification and evangelical history explicit, this paper argues that the methodological tools of queer theory offer a new frame for understanding the emergence of the Evangelical Right. Their secular framework, however, fails to address the holistic needs of Muslim populations. This study aims to map the theoretical framework for a religiously integrated relapse prevention model incorporating the psycho-spiritual insights of 14th-century polymath Ibn Taymiyyah, particularly his unique views on the fiṭrah and its role in cultivating experiential awareness (ma‘rifah). By analyzing areas of convergence and divergence between MBRP and Taymiyyan thought, this research reframes mindfulness not solely as a tool for psychological stability but as a pathway to restoring the corrupted fiṭrah for sustainable recovery. The integration of evidence-based cognitive behavioral strategies with Taymiyyan notions of God-centered mindfulness establishes a foundation for interventions that are both clinically effective and grounded in scripturalist Islamic scholarship. This approach holds particular promise for addressing substance use disorders in incarcerated Muslim populations, where Islamic frameworks have been shown to enhance coping mechanisms and support behavioral change.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/3763ae05-9617-4752-8005-1d17267be9df?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["3763ae05-9617-4752-8005-1d17267be9df"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["3763ae05-9617-4752-8005-1d17267be9df"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"read_access_person_ssim":["andres.murillo@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836643700142243840,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T16:25:25.215Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-04T03:00:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T15:54:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8181f9fa-91c2-4053-86d0-e286f2cee640","accessControl_ssim":["cf77f9f8-1ddc-4815-83e6-0f12a0c34623"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["7507d833-2c0f-44d0-97b6-a199af589be8"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["7507d833-2c0f-44d0-97b6-a199af589be8"],"depositor_ssim":["dezo.schreiner@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dezo.schreiner@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Overcoming The Challenges of Preaching in An Intercultural Congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-04T03:00:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T15:54:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a53ce632-919d-4253-9ee8-1bad7f866a90"],"hasLease_ssim":["90b3afed-2b4d-4af6-9327-296ba05d5709"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["0"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["0"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry in Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Christian parents preach to their children, with or without formation. However, the difference lies between have and have-not faith, formed and not formed. This thesis project is to design a Christian parent formation program based on community, communion, and commission (the 3C). It encourages partnership between Christian parents and between ordained ministers and Christian parents. The goal is to enable Christian parents to be effective Gospel preachers in their domestic Church, a term coined by St. Augustine Hippo in the 4th century and affirmed by the Second Vatican Council. \r\n\r\nThe first chapter outlines the thesis project’s genesis, ministerial context, \r\nproblem, purpose, hypothesis, assumptions, and limitations. Chapter 2 explores the interdisciplinary foundation. The extensive sociological studies of the 2005 Vern L. Bengtson report and the 2021 Christian Smith report anchored parents’ significant role in intergenerational faith transmission. Chinese culture and immigrant study provide further context for the foundation. Chapter 3 investigates the theological framework based on viewing the Christian family as a domestic Church, a fruit of the Second Vatican Council. This chapter further explores the relationship between the Church and the domestic Church and the practices of the domestic Church. Chapter 4 establishes the thesis project’s homiletic foundation. This chapter discusses Christian parents as preachers in the domestic Church and their preaching as dialogue, witnesses, and storytelling. \r\n\r\n\tTen mothers and six fathers participated in the 3C Parent Preacher Formation Program from January 16 to April 4, 2024. Chapter 5 presents this pilot project in detail. Chapter 6 discusses the result of the pilot project, including qualitative and quantitative data, and how the result supports the hypothesis laid out in Chapter 1. The chapter also reflects lessons learned, areas of improvement, and future opportunities.\r\n\r\n"],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/38bd733a-a57c-4ac5-a955-4552fb623559?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["38bd733a-a57c-4ac5-a955-4552fb623559"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["38bd733a-a57c-4ac5-a955-4552fb623559"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["registered","public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["paul01.ma@gmail.com"],"_version_":1828241101761282048,"timestamp":"2025-04-01T22:29:42.948Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
