Revisiting quranic verses and learning about the Prophet Muḥammad’s life (peace be upon him), are necessary but not sufficient ways for Muslims to live out more compassion in their lives. This thesis examines how a Christian/Christ-follower identity is formed, by expanding on an existing theistic model of spiritual identity development and a contemporary psychological model of autobiographical consciousness that describes the importance of language acquisition on an emerging sense of self. I make an argument that spiritual identity develops through exposure to sacred texts and faith practices, and more importantly the language and vocabulary that comprise them. Sacred texts contain language that forms a particular narrative about who a Christ-follower is, and what it means to be a Christ-follower and create the narrative structure. around which a person can form their own Christ-follower/Christian spiritual identity. Integral to the concept of radical Lutheranism is the inherent obligation for the church to be radically different from other mainline Protestant churches, and to be an active agent for social justice within American culture. This analysis takes a fresh look at Forde’s recommendations in today’s context. It suggests that the time is ripe for change in our current culture, that the ELCA is primed for change more than it was three decades after its formation, and that it can become a formidable change agent for our time as a role model for all mainline Protestant churches in America. Based on an understanding of key Lutheran doctrine, Forde outlined a theological approach to social justice that is even more relevant now than it was when he articulated his vision for a unique Lutheran church identity. Forde’s historically conservative approach to Lutheran social action is a contemporary guideline on how the ELCA can lead change efforts in our current environment."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/13286e99-1de2-409b-9d4e-2640d98a2dfd?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["13286e99-1de2-409b-9d4e-2640d98a2dfd"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["13286e99-1de2-409b-9d4e-2640d98a2dfd"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["randall.tyson@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1796528003158638592,"timestamp":"2024-04-16T21:23:35.317Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-04-16T00:55:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-16T00:55:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"36697362-85c3-4ce8-a082-11e3cd0f2611","accessControl_ssim":["e810495d-2ed8-4fbd-bb23-599a862262cf"],"depositor_ssim":["beth_fuller@sil.org"],"depositor_tesim":["beth_fuller@sil.org"],"title_tesim":["Renovation: The Trinity Transforming Lives"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-04-16T00:55:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-16T00:55:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1fc66265-bab6-45d3-983d-63b3af46fa5e"],"hasLease_ssim":["ad200a52-6c51-4153-9c22-33f56c195ef6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["D. Humanity was created to share in that relational love. In pride, the created chose knowledge over a relationship with the Creator, breaking God’s designed order and His anthropomorphic heart. The Trinity gifted humanity their independence while presenting an opportunity to restore them back into relationship. If every person were a house, each house would be a wreck, ravaged by the devastation of sin, desperately needing complete renovation. I used a charismatic metaphor to depict the Trinity as a renovation team, suited up in steel-toed boots, with the tools of the trade hanging off carpenter belts, ready to remodel lives. The Father is the Master Architect, Jesus the Master Craftsman and the Holy Spirit the Onsite Coordinator of this Holy Renovation Team. This portfolio contains an explanation of the Trinitarian blueprints for renovation and a story of personal restoration. Some spiritual disciplines are discussed as the renovation tools of spiritual formation. The favourable results of a research curriculum taught with the goal of heart rehabilitation are reported, and the ultimate reason for this Trinitarian renovation. Holy sweat drips, and the clangors of hammers and drills are heard as the Restoration Team commences the renewal process of Renovation: The Trinity Transforming Lives. Through the exploration of this community, as well as those responsible for mission formation, one can glean the gifts of Jesuit education that are accessible for a broader audience, as well as craft a way of proceeding in the work of mission formation and animation that can benefit all employees. This project demonstrates that authentic encounter with the wisdom of the Jesuit educational mission, acknowledgement and celebration of the unique gifts these employees bring to mission work, and demonstration of both the relevance and benefit of mission to any work within a Jesuit institution, invite this population to a richer connection to mission. This connection to mission serves the well-being and growth of the employee, which in turn increases the well-being and health of the entire institution and its constituents."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC-EDU/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/ea43fd60-8823-416e-963b-eb275d3edfdd?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["ea43fd60-8823-416e-963b-eb275d3edfdd"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["ea43fd60-8823-416e-963b-eb275d3edfdd"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["lauren.schwer@gmail.com"],"_version_":1797407731324289024,"timestamp":"2024-04-26T14:26:29.474Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-04-10T20:25:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-10T21:19:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6f2e65d0-0cd2-45e6-805d-2bb2bdf94dd9","accessControl_ssim":["efb24ff6-07dd-48ba-80be-e2d49574da8e"],"depositor_ssim":["cahanihu@student.ctu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["cahanihu@student.ctu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Religious Women as Global Migrants to the United States: Critical Conversations about Spirituality, Mental Health, and Vocational Identity"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-04-10T20:25:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-10T21:19:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6cca401f-d870-4ee1-91cf-f5a8d51c1c04"],"hasLease_ssim":["9949c23c-9200-4022-bb04-b59559292ebd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctorate In Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It is argued that sexism prevented generative action to grow the faith in the 1920s. The fellowship movement in the 1950s provided a paradigm shift for how to do church. This case study examines the importance of the fellowship strategy in supporting growth and strengthening women’s leadership to the point that a congregation could be sustained. This thesis makes the claim that the fellowship movement played a significant role in flattening the gender hierarchy, allowing for Unitarian Universalism to flourish in Lakeland. The fellowship movement was a successful growth strategy because of the presence of women. This study of women’s history in one congregation hopes to contribute to our understanding of our Unitarian Universalist religious history."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/64094f23-e8df-4ae6-b2eb-94fe8a7784bb?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["64094f23-e8df-4ae6-b2eb-94fe8a7784bb"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master of Arts Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["21727450-b09e-49df-a1b3-3fc1ae01cce1"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["64094f23-e8df-4ae6-b2eb-94fe8a7784bb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["meadville.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["jdechant@meadville.edu"],"_version_":1795970276792467456,"timestamp":"2024-04-10T17:38:46.006Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-04-08T22:36:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T16:19:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4da0b38c-9ddf-4789-982e-7b848fda8d5e","accessControl_ssim":["478800d6-1338-4c5e-96dd-a9009ba6760d"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["ad928024-fbe3-4ccb-a6d6-31047ffba74e"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["ad928024-fbe3-4ccb-a6d6-31047ffba74e"],"depositor_ssim":["muhammad.abduljami@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["muhammad.abduljami@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Adab and Artistry: Shaping the Future of African American Muslim Boys"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-04-08T22:36:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T16:19:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["68f0a1c8-5146-48bd-a76f-0bfc63767f86"],"hasLease_ssim":["a1bcd7db-b6ba-40fd-bb80-e72ddfb50dc8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["0"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["0"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Islamic Education"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"department_tesim":["Bayan Islamic Graduate School"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Abdul-Jami, Muhammad"],"keyword_tesim":["Black American","Islamic education","Religious Education","Muslim Youth","African American ","Raising Muslims in America"],"subject_tesim":["African American Muslim Boys","Islamic Schools","Muslim Youth Development","Islamic Education","African Americans--Religion"],"abstract_tesim":["African-American Muslim adolescent males are at a pivotal juncture, facing unique challenges and opportunities within the rapidly evolving social, cultural, and technological landscapes of modern society. In this critical phase of their development, there is an urgent necessity for a hands-on, experiential approach to education that goes beyond traditional academic learning and religious training. This thesis posits that such an educational framework, deeply rooted in Islamic values and teachings, yet dynamically integrated with practical life skills and contemporary knowledge, is essential to effectively guide these young individuals. By emphasizing practical training, mentorship, and community engagement, this educational approach aims to foster the holistic growth of African-American Muslim teenage teens, empowering them to mature into well-rounded, confident, and competent Muslim men who can navigate the complexities of modern life while adhering to their faith and contributing positively to their communities and the broader world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/ad928024-fbe3-4ccb-a6d6-31047ffba74e?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["ad928024-fbe3-4ccb-a6d6-31047ffba74e"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["ad928024-fbe3-4ccb-a6d6-31047ffba74e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"read_access_person_ssim":["muhammad.abduljami@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836643335073169408,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T16:19:37.058Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
